How are you doing today? I’ve been celebrating turning 65 with a SPLASH! As you will see with my Five Faves this week. There is a blush that gives you the perfect glow, subtly fragrant fall candles that make a great gift (like for yourself), a tasty sauce, and free advice from a wise older woman. Plus…we have Annie and Cindy’s FAVES, too.
1. Rosy Glow Blush by Dior
When our daughter, Alexandra, was getting ready for her wedding in Madrid, her friend Jane said, “Oh, you have to try my new blush!” We were a little alarmed as it’s such a bright color in the compact but it brightened her whole face for a fresh glowy effect.

Dior Backstage Rosy Glow has been sold out at Sephora but Alexandra managed to get some for me for my birthday…and I love it. It’s pricey but worth it. Wakes up my face but looks natural!
And speaking of my birthday…
2. Happy Birthday Yard Sign
This yard sign (similar) set a fun tone for my birthday party at my sister’s house!! Hey, look at that white light in the sky. Another type of sign. Perhaps that was my mom saying she’s happy and we should have a good time!

3. Fragrant Fall Candles
Sometimes scented candles can be overwhelming. But when shopping with my sister, Teresa at Bixby and Ball in San Diego, we found two really good soy candles.
There are some affiliate links at no extra cost to you.

Harvest Pumpkin: ” This candle is scented with ripe pumpkin and subtle herbal overtones.”
Wild Honey: “Golden honeycomb dripping with citrus notes, luscious black currant, and wild herbs.”

4. The Fresh Sauce That Makes Everything Better!
For my birthday party our son Thomas, grilled beef, lobster tails, and vegetables and served it with Fresh Herb Chimichurri Sauce.

After everyone left and my sister and I organized/donated Mom’s things, we had the chimichurri sauce mixed with mayonnaise as a dip for a steamed artichoke. And on another night we served it with a rotisserie chicken. It’s delicious!

5. From Me To YOU…

Let’s see what Annie and Cindy’s Five Faves are this week:
No way you’re 65 – I want to see some ID! Seriously, you look fabulous. Birthday blessings to you.
Endless birthday wishes to you Mary Ann! You’re the best! I’m printing your “What I Know List” to stick in birthday cards for my sister (62), sis in-law (66), best friend (63) and all my younger lady relatives in their 20s and 30s. Perfect! I’m searching out the blush and Thomas’ birthday spread for you is the only thing I’m craving!
Oh thanks, Colleen! I should have said “I’m still learning…instead of I barely know anything” 🙂
Happy Birthday, MA … let the celebrating continue! Love the lawn sign and the sign in the sky. Speaking of love, I can’t get enough of your daughter’s wedding dress. Dior Rosy Glow plus marital bliss looks good on her. But, what doesn’t look good on her?! How did I not know about Bixby & Ball? Adding to my list of places to visit when we make our annual holiday trip to Coronado. Pinned and printed Tommy’s chimichurri recipe. People go mad for this sauce and I’m going to try his version out at our meet-the-parents dinner party in a couple of weeks. Agree with all your ‘what I know’s’ … you’re a wise one. xo
You will love that shop, Juliet! There are more herbs in Tommy’s version …but you have them in your garden!
I JUST LEARNED THAT THE E IN EMOTION STANDS FOR ENERGY!
HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I didn’t know that!
Happy Birthday, Mary Ann. You look fabulous!! And definitely going to try that blush.
It’s good!
Hi Mary Ann,
I love hearing about a new soft blush. I feel like it’s such a facelift to have a little blush on our cheeks. And I totally agree, a smile does so much for a face.
I enjoy this time of year and a lightly scented candle completes the autumn picture.
Have a wonderful week and thank you for your kind words and your always-inspiring posts.
xo,
Karen
(And Happy Birthday!)
Oh goodness, love the What I Know! I’m always saying the older I get the less I know. I’m pretty sure twenty year old me was the most knowledgeable of everyone who ever existed. 🙂
Happy Birthday! I am sure that in 65 years that you know a lot, like: 1. how to raise two wonderful children, 2. to be an amazing interior designer that listens to peoples needs and helps make their homes a reflection of them as well as being stylish, comfy and cosy. 3. how to be stylish, classic and casual.
These are just a few of the things that I have learned about you and it keeps me coming back for more after all of these years.
I hope that you had a wonderful birthday weekend.
Happy Birthday. How wonderful That Tommy whipped up a great dinner for your party.
He’s really a good cook, Melinda!
you and your advice are fabulous❣️
You are the best, Lisa!
LOVED your list of What You Know at 65. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Mary!!
Happy 65th, Mary Ann and may you be blessed with many, many more to celebrate!
Same to you, Susan!!
Oh, I love this post. Sounds like your birthday was a little bittersweet but you are holding onto the good and giving of yourself with that terrific list of What I know.
Thank you for the reminder to get down to Bixby and Ball on Cedros. Love that shop, well truth be known, all of them in Solano Beach. So grateful for those favorites like Solo still opening their doors as well.
Enjoy all your posts and wishing you a great week in the City by the Bay . . .
We went to Solo too, Holly. Love Cedros.
Sounds like you had a wonderful birthday celebration! I am a year behind you and I certainly don’t act, think or dress like it either! :o) You look gorgeous in that dress BTW.
I was at Bixby and Ball a couple months ago…they were supposed to move across the street to a larger space. Looking forward to seeing that next time I am in Solana Beach.
Linda
I saw a sign across the street but didn’t think it was open. The store is so cute in the bungalow.
What an amazing job Thomas did on your bday dinner! Happy Birthday from someone with a little seniority.
Thanks for the blush and candle suggestions.
Your “free advice from a wise, older woman”made me smile (do I look younger doing that?). They all speak to me but I find #2 needs more practice by many, if not most, people, IMHO. It truly is just being respectful!
I’m sure you do look younger when you smile, Wren!! 🙂
What a joyous celebration you had! Please accept my belated wishes for a happy & healthy tear ahead.
Thanks, Janet!!
Happy Birthday
Thank you, Peggy!

It’s worth the effort…lasts for a week in the fridge.
Your “What I Know” is great! Is it me or does everything bring a tear to my eye lately? Many thanks for all the good products and tips. California rocks!
I get choked up easily, too, lately. But emotions are a good thing.
I LOVE ALL OF TATINE CANDLES THEY ARE ONE OF MY FAVORITES!! IF THAT BLUSH WILL MAKE ME LOOK AS YOUNG AS YOU I AM IN! NOTHING BETTER THAN A GOOD CHIMICHURRI SAUCE!!
