Summer BBQ: Grilled Steak With Delicious Chimichurri Sauce

July 9, 2024 By Mary Ann Pickett 18 Comments

This is an updated post with a perfected recipe for the herb condiment from Argentina called chimichurri sauce. It’s great on any grilled dish like chicken or fish but especially good on steak.

Today Cindy, Annie, and I along with some other friends, have a great…

Summer Progressive BBQ Menu For You To Try

We just got back from spending some time in Southern California where we always like to cook on the grill at my sister’s house in San Diego. And we made this dish…

Fresh Herb Chimichurri Sauce

A fresh garlic and herb sauce that's perfect for grilled meats.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp white balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • zest of one lemon
  • 3 medium garlic cloves, peeled
  • 2 medium shallots
  • 1 cup fresh basil, packed
  • 1 cup fresh cilantro, packed
  • 1/2 cup mint leaves, packed
  • 1/2 cup fresh parsley, packed
  • 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • a pinch of dried crushed red pepper

Instructions

  • In a food processor, combine all the ingredients until it has just a bit of texture. Transfer the sauce to a bowl and pour the olive oil over the mixture. Let stand for at least 20 minutes.

Here is my dog Chief with his brother Judge along with two neighbors that came over for a little visit. A Boston Terrier party!

We served the chimichurri sauce over grilled sliced flank steak and grilled vegetables garnished with fresh basil and mint leaves.

Now we are back home and I was happy to see our view (no summer fog for a change in SF) and my plants from Trader Joe’s are in good shape!

Love this virtual progressive BBQ, Mary Ann. I printed all the recipes and hoped to create a feast over the weekend … but then life got in the way. Next weekend! Looks like Chief and his pals enjoyed it! xo

Your chimichurri looks so good! We used to enjoy this at diners in Miami, however I’ve never prepared it myself. Your recipe looks simple and delicious so I’m going to try it, thanks! On another note, Chief is so much smaller than his brother; Judge looks like his dad! Love the Boston Terrior party!

You will like it, Ginger, and can adjust it. My sister uses onion instead of garlic and adds mint of basil sometimes.

I love Chimichurri! We don’t red meat too often but I do have a grilled tofu recipe with Chimichurri and it’s pretty darn good. I will have to try it with steak.
Loving the Boston Terrier party! :o)

I love the photos and I’d love that sauce. But my husband hates garlic. Rats! But I can dream can’t I? Beautiful presentation!

My mom can’t eat garlic either (upsets her stomach) but for some reason, she can eat onions – so I make the sauce with some onion instead (not a lot) and I get to still enjoy the herby and tangy flavor.
