Skincare For Women Over 60: What’s Working For Me

June 5, 2025 By Mary Ann Pickett 16 Comments

Our skincare needs to evolve, especially as we reach the wonderful age of 60 and beyond. I know what is working for me at 68 years old, including some new and tried and true products I’d like to share.

As it is summertime, we are having more sun exposure and showing more skin with cooler clothing. However, it’s important to have good skincare for women over 60 all year round.

At the hotel pool last weekend, I told my daughter not to take a photo of me in my bathing suit (which is on clearance and cotton voile side-tie sarong). She said “Don’t worry Mom, the cup is hiding your belly.” 🙂 Also, I put on a hat right after.

Gentle Cleansing Skincare For Women Over 60

Look for hydrating cleansers that won’t strip your skin of its natural oils. I use Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser, Lightweight Foamy Facial Cleanser.

Hydration is Key, More So Than Ever After 60

Moisturizing becomes increasingly important as our skin matures. To combat dry skin, opt for rich, nourishing moisturizers that contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and peptides.

These help to hydrate, plump, and firm the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Daytime skin care routine:

Eucerin Daily Hydration with SPF 30 I use this all over after getting out of the shower.

New to me: I was gifted Innbeauty Project Extreme Creme (Anti-Aging, Firming, & Lifting Refillable Moisturizer) and I really like it. I used it on my face and upper arms for our son’s wedding and I’m hooked.

Also good for crepey skin is MAËLYS B-GLOSSY Smoothing Body Serum (Anti-Aging Hyaluronic Acid Serum for Body Wrinkles, Hydrating Serums with Peptides & Shea Butter To Smooth The Appearance Of Wrinkles).

Again, I like this on my upper arms and I use this with Innbeauty when I’m going sleeveless.

For Nighttime Moisturizing Skincare Routine

Kiehl’s Creme de Corps Whipped Body Butter is luxurious. It really hydrates.

And on my face: Caudalie Resveratrol Lift Retinol Alternative Firming Night Cream Moisturizer. You can save money on this if you buy it in France at the drug store.

Sun Protection

Sunscreen remains non-negotiable at every age. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to protect your skin from harmful UV rays.

When on a boat, walking, playing pickle ball or sitting in the sun I use Neutragena Beach Defense SPF 30.

Exfoliation

Gentle exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells, promoting cell turnover and enhancing the effectiveness of your skincare products.

In the shower, I keep Origins GinZing Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser (Visibly Refines Pores & Brightens) to wash my face, neck and chest.

In the bath, I use Fresh – The Original – Brown Sugar Body Polish on my arms and legs. Always feels great.

Nutritious Diet and Hydration

A diet rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and healthy fats like avocado supports overall skin health. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day, which helps maintain skin elasticity.

With my niece, Katie at the end of a long night! (note: pearls are good for your complexion :).

My Arsenal For Thinner And Dryer Skin

For another perspective, you may find Cindy Hattersley’s Current Favorite SkinCare Products for Aging Skin helpful.

In our 60s we can accept some signs of aging, of course, as a part of life. But taking care of your skin can make you look and feel better. What is working for you?

Your skin looks fabulous, MA. I’m making note of all these products. I have a sunny vacation coming up and bathing suit anxiety has hit hard. 😑

The biggest skincare change I’ve added in the last two years is using Biodance Real Deep Collagen Mask. It’s a 2pc, korean gel mask that you leave on til it turns clear. That can take 2-3 hrs so you do have to commit some time to it. Some people sleep in it. It’s so hydrating that my wrinkles are definitely minimized and my very dry skin feels the effect for the next day or two. I have heard people receiving fakes on Amazon so if you do try it, buy it at sephora or a korean beauty store. Costco has a bulk pack too

Mary Ann, your skin looks wonderful. But I’d like to tell you about Oliveda Skin Care. It is a waterless skin care company. Most, if not all, cosmetics have distilled water, over 90%. With the water they then have to add preservatives to keep it clear of bacteria. Oliveda replaces water with hydroxityrosol from very old olive trees in Spain. Oliveda has been in Europe in stand alone stores but the president wanted to bring it to the US—but this was during covid—so he set up a multi layered selling plan. I have been using it for over a year and my 73yo skin has greatly improved. If you are interested go to my daughter’s instagram account—iamthecarterbrown— and look at her before and after photos. It truly is shocking! Oh, and the water that they DON’T put in the skin care they dig wells in Africa to provide fresh water to those without.

I love your weekly newsletter. I do want to share that all of the skincare products you recommend have moderate to high-risk additives. Have you heard of the Yuka app? It breaks down all food and beauty products ranking them based on risky additives. Completely changed my shopping game. I am 59 years old and have drawn a line in the sand – I refuse to use anything on my body that may be carcinogenic or affect my autoimmune disorder.

I just started using Yuka and it is amazing! I scan virtually everything at the grocery store (except meat and produce) and all cosmetic items. Many products I thought were healthy (even some labeled “organic”) have dangerous additives and preservatives. It has been a game-changer for me too.
