Earlier this week, my sister in San Diego mentioned that she would like to swap out her pillows for winter. I thought “that’s a great Christmas present for her!” So I sent her a Canva mood board (that included a photo of her Turkish rug) with some suggestions which she approved. Then Howard and I drove over to her local West Elm.
I want to tell you about the simple pillow changes, what I did with the extra citrus I had before we left on our trip, easy and thoughtful photo ornaments and my new earrings to dress up a casual look.
It’s Sunday Faves time with Annie and Cindy.
Simple Pillow Swap For Winter
Check this out. Starting with a neutral base.

My sister will have fun bringing out her other pillows again in the Spring. But for now we have introduced cheerful woven red pillows with sand velvet.
This quilted sofa overlay seems like a great idea (for me at home too with Chief and Dolly who’s coming for Christmas) because here is the reality using a blanket (which works ok too)…

Dried Citrus From Amazon Or Make Your Own
We have extra citrus on our trees in the garden. Last year, I bought dried orange slices and cinnamon siticks on Amazon for a winter table setting and to garnish presents.

This year I made some more by slicing them thinly and baking them on a pan with a grid at 170 degrees for four hours.

Then I attached the slices to garland with bent paper clips.

Party Earrings
These are pretty costume earrings from Lisi Lerch. They come in silver too…nice gift.

Ignore those wrinkles. 🙂 That’s a new Hourglass eyeliner that I just bought at Sephora. I like how it glides on over “looser” skin like a gel pen but with a matte crayon look.
Photo Ornament
Ordering this metal ornament from Shutterfly was easy.

Let’s see what my friends have discovered this week:

Mary Ann, those pillows are gorgeous! It’s incredible how versatile that rug is and how the red really pops now that it’s with red pillows! So perfectly cozy for winter and the holidays!
That ornament from Shutterfly is adorable!
xx
Love the new pillows on your sisters’ couch! They are the perfect Christmas gift.
I do not see wrinkles, I see a beautiful face! Love the earrings.
Dried oranges are so versatile. I made some 4 years ago and I still use them today. I just pack them with the other ornaments.
They are also great for cocktail garnishes!
Have a wonderful week Mary Ann.
Hi Mary Ann,
Pretty pillows, you performed your magic again. I’m your sister, Teresa appreciated it.
The ornament of you, Teresa, and Louisa is precious. Would you share where you got your maxi dress?
It’s fabulous, my style.
So sorry to hear returning home to find out your fridge conked out on you. Hopefully you did not lose all your food. In our retreat up in the freezing cold second home we lost all of our food twice because of a power outage, plus damage to our hardwood floor in the kitchen from water. Good luck in trying to get a replacement that you want and will fit in your space. It’s always a big challenge. Good luck.
I love the photo of Great Aunt, Grandmother and Granddaughter! The family resemblance is striking! Such a treasure forever❤️
Thanks so much, Gabrielle.
Thanks so much for the couch overlay idea! My couch is not as long but I can wrap the ends of the overlay underneath, I think. My daughter’s dog does what we call ‘digging to China,’ and while we love her and welcome her visit, I’m hoping that an overlay will help protect the couch
mine will overhang too!
You read my mind by providing a link to your eyeliner. I love everything about the soft look you created for your eyes. What are you wearing on your brow and lid in this photo?
That is a brow pencil by Benefit. Thanks!
Love the Winter pillow update! Is the red Scandi pillow true red or more crandberry color? Hard to tell in photo and online. What size is the pillow (also not on website)? Thank you so much for another great Sunday Favorites!
I think more cranberry. I believe we got the 22″
Hi Mary Ann
I have never tried to do my own orange slices, I bet they would be easy in the air fryer! I love the citrus idea in your Florida home-and I love those shutterfly ornaments!
Could you please let us know where you found your garland? It’s beautiful!
It was from Pottery Barn a few years ago.
All of these suggestions/ideas are wonderful and easy to do. Already changed out my pillows but wish I had waited to see your choices before shopping However, not too late for me to do orange slices.
The orange slices are sort of fun on a cold day.
