Hello! Recently, while at my sister’s house in San Diego, I was thinking that a sofa everyone loves is from Pottery Barn. I ordered the same one for my daughter, her friend, and my sister. Also spotted in San Diego was lots of red at the big Pottery Barn there. And I’m showing what I am wearing now in Palm Springs, CA.
It’s Five Fave Time with Cindy And Annie!
1. The Sofa Everyone Loves
As I said, the couch that everyone loves is a modern classic (transitional). It is the Jake Upholstered Sofa with a wooden base in Performance Everydaylinen Oatmeal.
We got it first for my daughter and it’s holding up well as their main couch. Then, my sister wanted it too, and finally, we ordered it for my daughter’s friend in a full sofa and a loveseat for their living room.
They have kids and pets, too.
It’s comfortable but with a firmer cushion fill. It comes in different sizes for large or small spaces.
If you need a new couch, you might want to purchase The Jake in a stain-resistant performance fabric. You will still need to wipe up spills and spot clean but so far it has good durability.
We like the bench seat cushion with two or three back cushions. We think the modern style is also timeless. You can accessorize it with throw pillows in the colors of your choice.

Here is a peek at my sister’s dining area. I bought her the Trade Joe’s tulips.

2. New Color At Pottery Barn – Red
I’m glad to see red coming back in accessories and linens.

3. My New Favorite Mascara
I hope you have had your coffee before you see this unretouched 66-year-old face. My point is to show you how well this Thrive Liquid Lash Extension Mascara works! My sister gave me a tube and I was hooked.
4. What To Read/Listen To:
I get a lot of my book recommendations from Elizabeth at Pinecones and Acorns like this latest one:
The Windsor Knot: A Novel (Her Majesty the Queen Investigates, 1) by S.J. Bennett
I listened to it on audiobook which was really fun as the person reading has a voice that sounds like the Queen.
“Windsor Castle, 2016. The morning after her ninetieth birthday celebrations, the Queen is shocked to discover that one of her guests has been found dead in his room.”
5. What To Wear On Vacation
40% Off Almost Everything At J. Crew. Use the code Spring to get 40% off on this wide-brimmed packable hat. I’ve been wearing it every day here in Palm Desert, CA. My beaded earrings are also 40% off. The dress I’m wearing as a cover-up is from Zara.
I’m so happy! Here my son, Tommy and I are at the hotel pool with my granddaughter, Louisa. Louisa likes a straw sun hat too!
I saw an ad for this maxi dress on Instagram. It was pretty inexpensive (less than $30) so I took a chance ordering it. It’s perfect for a warm evening out.
I ordered a size small as I didn’t want it to be too long. The comfortable platform sandals are here.
If you are new here, each Sunday I share my top five favorite things along with my friends, Cindy and Annie. It’s like our weekly “catch-up” phone call. If you would like to receive this series every week, please sign up HERE.

I love the family pictures! Your granddaughter is adorable. I also love the Zara dress but can’t find it on their website. Do you have a link for this dress?
Always love your posts!!!
Mary Ann Pickett says
Sorry, Marsha. I don’t have a link as I bought it at a store in San Diego.
Nancy Toombs says
Hi Mary Ann,
I look forward to reading your Classic Home weekly articles. Thank you! I am looking to have some construction done on our house sometime in the fall. I am looking to purchase a new couch and two living room chairs. We have a small old dog who bring in his share of dirt and mud, especially with all the rain. I am thinking of getting a couch from Pottery Barn but am concerned about stains on the couch. What do you recommend? Do you have any suggestions for chairs with an attached ottoman?
Warmest regards,
Nancy
Mary Ann Pickett says
Nancy, to be honest, we make our dogs sit on a throw blanket as you still have to spot clean performance fabric.
Juliet says
Looks like a fun first family vacation for Louisa … and everyone else! Yay for the return of red … and that comfortable couch. If it came in a section I’d order it right now … maybe it does, I need to investigate. If I had to do it all over again the bench cushion is the only way to go. I love our sectional, but the cushions are problematic where they meet … and there’s not enough fluffing that can fix it. Ugh. Thrive is the BEST mascara. And you remind me it’s time to reorder so thanks for the link. Also love the book recommendation … the Queen investigates?! I’m in! xo
Mary Ann Pickett says
Thanks, Juliet!!!

Love Thrive mascara! And their philanthropy of giving to women’s organizations. A good company to patronize.
We have the Pottery Barn Pearce sofa and love it. PB makes good quality at reasonable prices we have found. Thanks for sharing the photos!

I’m so glad you mentioned their philanthropy! Must be why they named it Thrive.

Always love your posts, Mary Ann. Quick question, what color mascara do you wear, black or brown, with your blonde hair?
