Linen clothing in Summer makes sense in warm and especially humid weather since the fabric breathes. Annie from Most Lovely Things and I would like to share our favorite linen apparel with you.
There are some new pieces that you may wish to add to your wardrobe to feel cool, chic, and fresh!

Linen Dress Garments
This J. Jill linen midi dress gathers with a tie under the bust. It also has pockets and comes in red. This is a petite small (I’m 5’1″) they also have regular and tall sizes).

I brought a lightweight white cotton cardigan to dinner in case the air conditioning was cool.
What I like about linen dresses is that they are so simple… one-and-done.

This green breezy A-line shirt dress is a favorite of mine. It also comes in blue and yellow and in tall, petite, and regular sizes. It can be dressed up a little or even worn as a bathing suit coverup… which is versatile if you are traveling.
I’m wearing a white padded bra tank underneath from Amazon that my sister gave me. I like it so much I bought two more (good price). They are great under T-shirts too.
The necklace was 60% off at J. Jill and is no longer online but may be in the store. And I just noticed that I missed a button :/
Linen Shirts And Blouses
This is a “no-iron linen top” that I am wearing with the white bra tank top and blue jean pants.

This is an outfit that I would wear to Target or to run errands. The platform slides are comfortable and 50% off. My sister gave me the Kate Spade crossbody purse (sold out but this is similar) for my birthday.
How To Care For Linen Fabric
I wash like-colored linen on the delicate cycle in cool water in the washing machine. Then I put it in the dryer for just a few spins and hang it damp to dry. It looks like this at this point…

Next, I will steam or iron some of the wrinkles out but I don’t kill myself doing it as it will wrinkle as soon as I sit down. So embrace the wrinkles! It signifies that it’s real natural linen.
Other Linen Clothing In Summer
I’ve shown you these linen outfits recently in the past. But here is a little recap.

Top left: This no-iron linen blouse is like the white linen top I’m wearing with the jeans above. I took it out of my suitcase in San Diego and hung it up and it literally looked like this the next day.
Top right: This embroidered tunic dress is a linen blend and is lined.
Bottom left: This is a blue version of the green J. Jill dress that I’m wearing above. I bought it last year and it’s sold out but you could get it in yellow, medium blue or green.
Bottom right: I love this Faherty linen dress and will be taking it to Portugal with me in July. I hand-washed it and hung it to dry and it did not need ironing.
Let’s head over to Most Lovely Things to see Annie’s linen recommendations!

Your choices and styling look so good together! I wanted to mention that I ordered the Faherty navy dress and really like how it looks and feels, and that it has pockets. However, the blue “bled” all over my white denim jacket and undergarments. With effort, I got most of the blue out of the jacket (the other items are permanently discolored). I’ll see how the dress seems after washing but may have to throw it out.
Oh no. So sorry about that. I washed mine separately in cold water and didn’t wear a jacket. In fact, I just ordered the dress in the stripe as it’s on sale now. You should tell Faherty!
I am new to your site and jumped over from Cindy’s site. I love the linen in shades of blue! The no iron linen at Chicos is out of stock. I would love it in blue. I am 5’2” at 140 pounds, was blonde and am now white and silver stripes. You are wearing my colors! I looked at the cami with bra built in and have to say no. My girls are heavy 34 Ds and at 78 they are not up where they used to be. I can’t wear anything around my ribs because of an injury years ago. I had hopes but after reading the comments, I’m going to pass. I wear plan cotton camisoles from Walmart in all different colors. They are cheap, comfortable and seem to last for years. I wear medium under my tops and tees and so far no one seems to notice that I am not wearing a bra.
Thanks, Sydney…I need more of a shelf bra in my camisoles…I had a mastectomy and reconstruction over 25 years ago…and my girls are not so even. 🙂
Keep checking Chico’s for the blouse!
Mary Ann, Super cute pieces you have! I love that navy blue dress on you. The slides with your jeans are so good.. I need to order that undershirt!
Fun post and perfect for now.
Thanks, Kim!
Would you mind sharing what size you’re wearing in the green shirt dress? Thanks
Yes. it’s a XS petite as I wanted to have the tank show…but the small fit well too around the bust.
I used to hate it but now I’m hooked on linen. These are such great finds as always Mary Ann! Thanks for sharing.
Me too, Nancy, especially in Summer!
Hello Mary Ann, You wear the linen so well and you know your colors. I love the linen look but always feel a bit disheveled and don’t care for the maintenance. Was wondering if you or any of your friends have tried the Chicos no-iron linen and are willing to write a review?
Yes…the white blouse and the blue one above are Chico’s no iron linen. I love them but they do get some wrinkles, although not bad and I would buy them again.
You look great in all of your dresses. I love the bright colors on you. Do you have a mist iron that you could recommend? I gave up on them because they were spitting water. When I travel I bring along a small empty fine-spray bottle. Hang my clothes up, give them a quick mist (especially the creased area) and go over it with a blow dryer. Brushing over wrinkles with a damp washcloth and going over it with blow dryer also works. European hotels and cruise ships don’t provide irons so this has worked great for me. Thanks for all your happy posts.
What a great way to smooth clothing when you travel!
I bought my steamer from Target. It’s a Black and Decker and I like it.
MA, love all you linen looks and love linen for summer. You escaped to Florida in the nick of time, May Gray and June Gloom are extra this year … so looking forward to linen days ahead. I ordered those platform shoes … so cute! xo
Oh I don’t miss June gloom, Juliet. You will look darling in those sandals!
Please tell me about your sandals in the photo with the blue dress! Thank yoj’
They are by Lifestride…but sold out. Sorry.
Mary Ann—What a great selection of cool linen dresses and shirts. Just the thing for a steamy Florida summer. Would you mind sharing the size you purchased for the green a-line shirt dress? I love the first navy dress with the tie. The website states the tie is at the waist but it looks like it’s under your bust as you stated. Is that so? Do you wear a slip or anything special under your linen dresses? So many bloggers suggest a body base shorty with minimal compression under their dresses and even one suggested wearing it under her white jeans to gently smooth the appearance. Thank you
HI Rose. The tie front dress I’m wearing is a petite small. I’m long-waisted so it ties above my waist. I don’t wear a slip as it’s cooler with just underwear. Hope this helps.
Mary Ann! You look beautiful in all of your linen dresses and shirts! That sleeveless navy dress is gorgeous on you! I love that it comes in tall! I may have to try that on! Linen is so prefect where you live! I do love how good linen is so easy to care for!
xx
I love J Jill’s linen and I will be sharing that same shirt dress next week in a different colorway. It is so flattering. You look darling in that blue sleeveless one. I wish I looked that good in sleeveless!!
I just loaded up on the lotion and my arms look a little better 🙂
