I’m writing this from the Newark airport en route to Lisbon…yay! We’ve been fortunate to travel often whether for work or curiosity during our lives. There can be things that can make travel extra enjoyable such as simply a soft wrap on the airplane, a good read, or the convenience of a see-through cosmetic bag at your destination.
My Fave Faves today with Cindy and Annie are about how to make travel extra enjoyable.
1. Light Cashmere Travel Wrap
This cashmere wrap from Quince is “affordable luxe” and has the soft appeal of our cashmere throws that we love. Lot of colors. This can elevate your seat in Coach 🙂

2. New Travel Makeup Bag
Calpak makes transparent cosmetic bags. I wish I had this but I did buy it as a present for my friend, Lisa’s birthday (she travels more than we do).

Also, don’t forget Packing Cubes to keep you organized to make it able to fit more in your suitcase. I have these and now they are even lower in price!

3. Perfect Little Hairspray
Several people at Sephora recommended this Living Proof travel-sized mini hairspray and now I do too!

4. Cozy Packable Robe
If you are staying in an Airbnb or Vrbo instead of a hotel…you may want to bring your own robe. I love this soft robe by Eberjey.

5. Libby App On Kindle or Your iPhone And Sources For Good Reads
Yes, I know have been recommending the Libby app for a while…just get a library card and the app.
Here are the places where I get my book recommendations:
Reese’s Book Club Picks A lot of these get made into movies.
Pinecones and Acorns Fellow friend and blogger, Elizabeth is a voracious reader and I like her picks.
Read Receipts on Instagram is by a group of young women including Annie’s daughter, Madeline…

In fact, based on this list I just finished reading “The Villa” by Rachel Hawkins... a bit dark but interesting and something I normally wouldn’t have chosen.

But, I enjoyed it and finished it quickly.
I also get great recommendations from readers like YOU! Have anything for me today?
Since I am on vacation in Portugal right now, I just started listening to “Two Nights In Lisbon.” I will let you know what I think.

Let’s see what Annie and Cindy’s Five Faves are this week:
Mary Ann,
I’m dying to go to Portugal now! That place with all the copper! OMG!
That was so sweet of you to include Read Receipts! Thank you so much!
xx
Love and appreciate you travel tips … packing cubes are everything as is a soft warm wrap for the plane. I love the clear make up bag … I just had a disaster in my makeup bag and will order this as a replacement. Great idea to pack a light robe … hotel robes are sometimes a little heavy and I like to have own for longer trips. Also appreciate the reading list and just downloaded Yellowface. Happy travels! xo
Someone please help! I got a Kindle recently and the Libby app. My wait time is crazy on every book I want to read. Is there a secret? Do you guys all wait months to read a book??? Help a reader out!
It might be with your local library. But I usually do wait two or three weeks for books…but it’s nice as I reserve several and there is aways something in the cue ready to read.
Hi Lynn, your library may not purchase as man6 digital copies as they need to keep the supply moving. Check your library website as not all of the books are available on Libby. For example my library also has quite a lot of books on another app called Hoopla. Hang in there. Many people request lots of books and when they are available they may bypass them if they have too much to read at the moment. It usually moves faster than the queue indicates. Think about some older books that may next be in much demand. Newer books often have a long wait. Happy reading!
Annie
Thanks, Annie…I have heard other people recommend Hoopla too. Good explanation of the queue system.
Mary Ann,
I hope you are having a wonderful trip! Looking forward to the Portugal post.
Thank you for including me on your book suggestions. I LOVE books and read 1 at least 1 a week and try to listen to one-4 on Libby. I love Libby! Such a great app and resource. If you like magazines you can read them from around the world! I just finished Good Night, Irene by Louis Alberto Urrea.
A cashmere travel wrap is my #2 travel tip, #1 is to bring snacks. A wrap can double as a blanket on the plane in the hotel or to wear out.
As for packing cubes, I’ll be honest I have never used them. My husband swears by them.
Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful week and a safe trip!
Hi Mary Ann,
Wow, sounds like a wonderful trip. You are a pro at traveling, it’s so important to surround yourself with creature comforts. Look forward to you sharing your adventures. Sintra sounds like it’s full of history and spectacular castles.
Have a lovely week.
Many thanks Mary Ann for including the sources for book clubs. I am constantly looking for good biographies and memoirs. The latest I read is Down and Out in Paradise: The Life of Anthony Bourdain by Charles Leerhsen. It answered some questions I had about why he ended his life.
Love your blog!
We were in Lisbon in May — lots of tourists then but a lovely walking town. I se and the packing cubes (My husband and I each pack one for the other’s luggage in case of a luggage emergency. This trip I carried a small back pack in the cities we visited (which also included Dublin, Barcelona and Nice). I loved going hands free!
Love the lemon cover on “The Villa” — it took a second glance to see the ominous crack that alludes to “it’s a bit dark”! Thank you for some great book resources.
We were in Lisbon for the last week of June while my husband attended a conference: although I’d read one story saying that tourism was big there, I wasn’t expecting the volume of tourists throughout a sizable city! It’s the “IT” place, I think! But we had a lovely visit. I’m sure you will visit Sintra: SPECTACULAR castles and villas in the old summer resort town. And history, too, as the Portuguese Royal Family was in their summer residence when the country eliminated the monarchy and they had to flee the country immediately.
Enjoy your trip!
We are going to Sintra tomorrow, Joan. Thanks for the bit of history!!
Just read Eat Joy by Natalie Garrett.
It is a fun collection of essays about food from prominent authors.
Quick and fun travel book also a good source for future reads by these authors!
I ❤️ travel cubes after 6 weeks away! Life savers!
Thanks for the book tip, Shari! It’s on my list now.
Link wrong one packing cubes?
PS Great travel suggestions!
Thanks so much!!! Just fixed it. I’m using the cubes now on the trip.
