Adding Vintage Items To A Laundry Room Gives It Personality
If you are like me, you want to see some vintage items in a utilitarian room to give it soul and personality. I’ve been shopping my own home for a couple of vintage things to add to our new bathroom (still in the works).
Then, on Instagram, I saw what Rachel did to refresh her laundry room. It’s timeless, interesting and affordable. I am featuring it today, along with a British tv series I’m loving, a balsamic pork chop recipe and an outfit of the week.

She used vintage art in her new laundry room. It really adds something. Imagine it without?
Cindy Hattersley’s laundry room has great vintage style too.
And here is what Rachel from Cherry Street Blossoms did to transform her laundry room.
Rachel: “Originally the sleeping porch, this window-encased room recently got a little upgrade with new striped cafe curtains and brass hardware. This space has evolved over the years from a playroom, to an office and now officially just a laundry room. A few tweaks have made it prettier and a lot more functional for our family.”
Laundry room before:
Peel and stick tiles on the floor…and they brought in an antique buffet that was stored in the garage to use as a folding table (I think I like this best).

Balsamic Pork Chops with Sweet Onions And Figs
Howard found this recipe on The Good Dinner Mom, which I love as he knows you can get some good recipes from blogs.
Howard used the stove top method and used fresh figs instead of dried. He served it with roasted vegetables.
What To Watch On TV : The Hardacres On Britbox
I finally subscribed to Britbox to get “The Other Bennet Sister,” which was good but I really like The Hardacres. It’s addictive.
“The series charts a classic rags‑to‑riches story as Sam and Mary Hardacre lose their dockside jobs after a workplace accident. With their three children and sharp‑tongued mother, the family must choose between the workhouse or a risky new venture. The gamble pays off, and they relocate to Hardacre Hall, a country estate that brings both opportunity and intense social pressure.
Chocolate Brown At Home To Ease Into Fall
It’s still hot here in Florida, but I bought a hand-made brown and cream vase as a nod to Fall. 20% off for Labor Day.
It said it wasn’t water-tight, so I put a glass with water inside it to be safe.
Also, I’ve wanted to bring in some brown salad plates and McGee & Co has pretty ones on their Labor Day sale.
And these seem like a good deal on Etsy...
But I already bought six vintage brown salad plates on Etsy (arriving from Denmark today).
Do you shop on Etsy? It’s like a global marketplace. Just be aware of the shipping costs that may surprise you.
Outfit Of The Week…Red Cotton Shirt Dress
I used my own older belt with this Ann Taylor shirt dress. But I think next time I will wear the sash/self-tie belt and black flats. It’s 30% off now.
It comes in classic and petite sizes (and if you are petite, you’d better hurry). The wedge sandals are old and so is the Bembien leather tote from Madewell (similar). The sunglasses are here.

Love your red dress! I also found the Hardacres addicting and now I am waiting for the new series Unforgotten which should be coming out soon. I tried The Gentleman but found the violence too much for me. Give me crime dramas’ anyday! Happy week!

I, too, adore The Hardacres. Many of my favorite shows are on Britbox. My husband jokes about my addiction to “British crime drama” – more character development, less explosions and severed body parts than their US counterparts. I put my antique / vintage French pots on my laundry room shelves and it does warm up the room. You look great in red! Me, not so much.

I would hesitate to cover so much of those pretty windows! My laundry room is subterranean, so no windows for me. Just the original 70s white wood paneling! It would be nice to add some framed modern art.
My husband and I loved The Other Bennet Sister. I am currently reading the book and, of course, it is even better. I couldn’t get into The Hardacres. Also recommended: My Brilliant Career on Netflix! Remember the movie with Judy Davis and Sam Neill? Sheesh. Was that really 1979?! This is a delightful miniseries remake.

Have to disagree with the series, My Brilliant Career. The director has butchered the story with terrible miscasting and the music. The movie was perfect. If you get Paramount, try ‘Colin from Accounts’, a quirky Aussie comedy – the lead actor is in Devil wears Prada 2. SlowHorses is a great British series, along with the Gentlemen (despite a bit of violence).

Love the Other Bennet Sister. We just finished it. We get Brit-Box through our PBS donations. We will have to check out The Hardcars.

Thank you for a bit of inspo for my laundry room — last year, as one of my birthday gifts, my husband gave me a “vintage” (ie, found at a second-hand shop) B&W framed print that says “Alexa, do the laundry”. I don’t think that is what you meant!
Did the Ann Taylor dress run roomy? I am 5’1″ and wonder if I should go with my normal AT size.
I wear a four in the Boden shirtdress so that’s what I ordered for the Ann Taylor red dress…but I might like the 6 better for extra room.
