Fave Chic Comfort Shoes: Dressy Flat Sandals And More

April 28, 2024 By Mary Ann Pickett 20 Comments

Today for my favorite things with Cindy and Annie, I am talking about something top of mind: dressy flat sandals and other comfortable summer shoes. We have some travel coming up and all my sandals were looking a little “worn.” I wear sandals a lot here in Florida.

When my friend Joy was here for a lawn wedding, she asked if she could borrow a pair of gold flat sandals (we wear the same size). And I thought “no, but I’d like to have some!” That sent me on a mission as we have another lawn wedding in Hawaii coming up.

At 67, comfortable shoes are a must for a happy state of mind. I’ve learned that I prefer to have a back strap behind my heel (stays on better). When I do have a bit of a heel, it better be a block or a wedge. I don’t mind a strap between my toes.

Let me show you my search results and top picks.

Dressy Flat Sandals — Elegant Styles For Your Wardrobe

ALL these shoe brands are cute and are mostly new products: one (Saks 5th Ave) • two (I bought these and love them Lily Pulitzer — 46% off on Zappos — they have a wide range of flat sandals and free shipping if you are an Amazon Prime member) • three (Boden) • four (Boden)• five (Coach)• six with rhinestones (DSW – free in store or curbside pickup) • seven (Tory Burch love these — maybe when they go on super sale) • eight with tiny pearls (Chico’s) free same day pickup if in stock

Other Favorite Summer Comfortable Shoes For You Or Mom

not much foot room flying in coach for my Madewell leather ballet shoes (comfortable enough to wear in the airport) • I consider these my “dressier sandals” with the block heel from Anthro • love these wedge sandals from Nordstorms Rack — perfect companion for maxi dresses or linen pants.

Fitflop Sandals

This is a new brand for me and I love this pair. I think they will be great on vacations that involve a lot of walking. No break in necessary.

I need to start using Jergen’s Natural Glow Self Tanner again!

Dolce Vita Buckle Sandals

These leather sandals are flexible but sturdy enough to walk on cobblestone sidewalks.

I’m wearing the Anthro Somerset maxi dress that comes in petite, standard and plus sizes.

3. Chic Tropical Wedding Attire

These are colorfully fun but not too revealing.

What To Cook – Veal Milanese

Howard’s Flavorful Veal Milanese With Chopped Fresh Tomato

Course Main Course
Cuisine Italian
Servings 4

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. veal leg cutlets, cut 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 3-4 tbsp flour
  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup seasoned dry bread crumbs
  • 3 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • salt and pepper

tomato salsa

  • 1/4 cup chopped grape tomatoes
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • chopped fresh parsley
  • fresh basil and grated parmesan for garnish

Instructions

  • Pound veal cutlets to 1/8 inch thickness, if necessary. Beat egg and water in shallow dish until blended. Combine bread crumbs and cheese in second shallow dish. Dip each cutlet into flour, then egg mixture, then into coating mixture to coat both sides.
(At this point, our son thinks it is a good idea to let the meat "rest" so that the coating stays on better…but Howard doesn't wait)
  • Heat 2 teaspoons oil in large nonstick skillet over medium heat until hot. Place 2 cutlets in skillet; cook 2 to 3 minutes or until cooked through, turning once. Remove cutlets; keep warm. Repeat with remaining oil and cutlets 1 to 2 more times, as necessary. Season cutlets with salt and pepper, as desired. Sprinkle with tomato and parsley mixture, as desired.

What To Watch: Franklin On Apple TV

Howard and I are enjoying this series with Michael Douglas as Franklin and all the scenes of Paris.

“Based on Pulitzer Prize winner Stacy Schiff’s book, “A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America,”

“Franklin” explores the thrilling story of the greatest gamble of Benjamin Franklin’s career. In December 1776, Franklin is world famous for his electrical experiments, but his passion and power are put to the test when — as the fate of American independence hangs in the balance — he embarks on a secret mission to France.”

Also really good…

Megan Leavey On Netflix

An older movie from 2017 that I had never seen…I loved it. I think you will too if you like dogs. It’s based on a true story.

I would love to know where the dress you have on in the picture of you on lounge chair and you reference using Jergen’s tanner. It looks so cute and classic on you.

Thanks, Lori. That’s an Eileen Fisher dress from last year. I don’t think it is available anymore.

Oh dear, the link to the cute wedge sandal from Nordstrom Rack didn’t work. It took me to the cute Madewell flat. Can you help with the correct link?

The sandals look so gorgeous. I normally wear sandals with more of a platform, especially if I have to walk a lot. I realize the totally flat sandals are fashionable right now, but I can’t imagine totally flat would be comfortable on my older, sometimes fussy, feet. I have worn Fitflops quite a bit. Supposedly they help strengthen our calves.

Love all these sandal selections! Alas, I’ve been healing a bout of plantar fasciitis and wearing mostly Brooks sneakers, but when I can, I’ve found a few pair of excellent ‘wedge’ sandals by Dansko, Vionic and Korkease. I am faithful that someday I’ll be back into sparkly flats. New to your blog…love it.

Take care of your plantar fasciitis…so painful. We did a sneaker post recently and my new faves are Hokas. I do see sparkly flats in your future 🙂

Have you tried rolling your foot over a ball? My physiotherapist recommended it. At first I was sceptical but it worked wonders in no time.

Mary Ann! Two great recommendations on what to watch! I missed that movie too when it came out in 2017.
Those black sandals look cute AND comfortable! Hopefully they are still cute in a size 11! We might all be showing up wearing them in Paris!
Howard’s dinner looks amazing! 5 stars!
