Hello! It’s time for my Five Faves like a fireplace makeover with paint, my versatile pleated knit skirt (dress it up or down), things to do if you are coming to San Francisco, and something to make you smile! Annie and Cindy have their Five Faves too with links at the end of the post.
1. If You Are Coming To San Francisco…
“Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair…” And add these things to your list of things to do…
Cafe Zoetrope
Have lunch or dinner at Cafe Zoetrope. It’s a cool environment in a historic building, owned by Francis Ford Coppola. The service is friendly service and the food is great!

After dinner here, Howard and I went to the brand new, awesome show.
“Dear San Francisco” at Club Fugazi
It’s an amazing poetical, acrobatic show in a smaller theater. It is sometimes frightening with displays against gravity. I’d like to see it again.
2. Fall Outfit: Pleated Knitted Midi Skirt From Anthropologie
On our “date night,” I wore this comfortable midi skirt (comes in regular and petite), with black booties, a black short-sleeved turtleneck, and a denim jacket. I will get a lot of use out of the skirt through the holidays. Ha! It has an expandable waistline.

3. Nancy Meyers Film By Jimmy Fallon And Chris Stapleton
As someone who watches a lot of Nancy Meyers movies (especially during football season), this really cracked me up!
4. Blue Printed Linen Pillow
I was at Pottery Barn last week with my client, Laura to pick up some accessories for her new family room and we both liked this reasonably priced pillow (the fabric is similar to a Ralph Lauren one that I have used).

5. Fireplace Makeover With Paint To Resemble Slate
I said to my client, Kathy in North Carolina, that her fireplace surround color wasn’t doing us any favors. I thought we (meaning she) should paint it a black matte so that it would look like honed slate or granite with black grout. Easy for me to say but she got right to work priming it with Stix Waterborne Bonding primer and painting it with Benjamin Moore floor and patio low sheen enamel latex. The paint color uses the formula for Behr Slate.

Didn’t Kathy do a great job!?? And I like her leather chairs and pillows.

Let’s see what Annie and Cindy’s Five Faves are this week:
Hi Mary Ann,
The skirt looks great on you with the denim jacket.
I love Nancy Myers films. I may have to revisit some of them this autumn. I always enjoy the Sunday Faves.
xo,
Karen
The video made me laugh out loud (and scare the dog). It’s so true for me. Love the skirt on you MaryAnn.
Thanks, Mary!!!
Hilarious ! I can enjoy a little football (favorite teams, Cowboys and some college) but quickly tire of it…this video is so funny and true, thanks !
Thanks so much for commenting, Pat!
Love the pillow, and the fireplace looks amazing! Of course so do you, the Anthro skirt looks beautiful on you.
Thank you, Elizabeth!!!
Wonderful post Mary Ann. I’d kill for a restaurant like Zoetrope near us, we have no good casual restaurants. Nancy Meyers is a genius and her movies are some of my favorites of all time. I had to laugh at you buying another pillow, but it’s beautiful and will be a good addition to your amazing pillow cover collection. And finally the mantle, what a great transformation!
Happy Autumn to you.
Yeah…I need another TWO pillows like a hole in the head. Alie and Tommy are great beneficiaries of my pillows 🙂
Hi Mary Ann,
I love love love this post, because I did leave my ❤️in my hometown, San Francisco, Marin County and Stinson Beach, s as no I used to wear flowers in my hair. I used that song and my girlfriends picture with flowers in her hair as her home crafted birthday card a few years ago. I had so much fun crafting that.
In fact Tina Martin has a wonderful memoir she wrote “Everything I Should Have Learned I Could Have Learned In Tonga.” It’s a wonderful read, Tina has an amazing sense of humor. If you decide to order it on Amazon make sure you order the latest edition. Tina has traveled all over the world it seems.
Loves Spain and speaks French and Spanish. We have been forever friends for 44 years now I believe. We met in San Francisco. Tina stayed, and we moved to Arizona.
I always look forward to all the things that you have to share.
Sending smiles,
What a great idea for the birthday card! I will look up that book! Thanks.
The painted ceramic tile!!! I’ve been thinking about doing this and this looks amazing! What color enamel did she use? BTW, the JF/CS video is a HOOT!
I just texted Kathy to ask. She sent me a picture of the paint can…but you can’t read the color.
You and the cute funny video have inspired me to binge watch Nancy Meyers’ films this football season starting with the oldest. Also, you look fantastic in the knit skirt. Wish I could afford it!
You could wait for the skirt to go on sale, Candy…my problem is that the petite sizes are the first to go.
Thanks for the great how to fireplace remake. I have outdated tile and will love this relatively easy fix. Thank you, Mary Ann!
Good luck, Judy!!
Such a good post to make me long for San Francisco, a Nancy Meyers film, and blue and white pillows! Happy Autumn!
Happy Autumn to you, Holly!!!,
