Last week I showed you Jacqueline and Zach’s Southern California living room. Today we are featuring their family room designed for comfort. When I took these photos, the couple had recently given birth to a baby boy. So, I temporarily moved the baby paraphernalia out of the way. Thanks for letting me intrude, Jacqueline, Zach, and baby Max!
Comfortable Blue and White Family Room
Sectional To Fit The Whole Family
Sectional sofas are great for snuggling and watching television. The Maxwell sectional from Restoration Hardware has a chaise/ottoman that is versatile as it can be moved to either end of the sofa.
Blue and White Décor
The sectional is in light blue performance fabric and accessorized with cushy blue and white pillows.
Coffee Table Styling
Round or oval coffee tables create a nice flow for sectionals. I suggested this oval Noir coffee table (and felt about there being no sharp corners for the baby that was on the way when we ordered it). The bone inlay round tray makes it easy to style with three objects. The vase was made by Zach.
Wall Decoration
On the far wall, we have a gallery of travel photos taken by Zach. The wall of wine bottles combines storage with décor.
You may also want to check out the baby’s nursery inspired by travel. Isn’t their dog so cute…looks like one of the stuffed animals 🙂
Comfortable Rug
This hand-tufted, low pile rug from West Elm is durable but also soft on a crawling baby’s knees. I love the design.
And that’s a blue and white Family Room Designed For Comfort!

Mary Ann
Mary Ann, This looks terrific. Love the walls, the sectional and especially the couch and cool table. The wine wall is super neat too. What a lucky young family. I have to check out the other post! Have a good weekend.xo
Too funny. Your opening line on my computer was abbreviated to, “I moved the baby”!!!!
First of all, I’d like to say thank you to this couple for brightening my day. New home, new baby, new puppy, new decor. What a needed big dash of HOPE. Now that’s a word. Love the wine storage. Glad there were trip photos involved in the decor. My eyes are itching to see what a blow up—maybe 4′ x 6’— on a canvas wrap would look like on the fireplace. I know you mentioned human scale, but I think the fireplace could take that and what a lovely statement to center this young family’s life—their past journey and future dreams.
I have a large print by an Oklahoma (my home state) of a night sky in Oklahoma that shows the Milky Way. It rests on the mantle and sits just under the crown moulding. It makes me smile. The good news you can find a vendor that can do all of the work and make it UV safe…for 99 years. Now there’s HOPE again!
Gives me HOPE too!
Mary Ann … this is such a great space … you know how I feel about deep sofas and this sectional is perfection. Love the oval table too … and round tray. But … hello … that wine wall. Awesome! xo
Mary Ann,
Looks very cozy and comfortable. The ideal spot for family to enjoy time together.
Great job, as usual.
xo,
Karen
I had to laugh when I saw the title of your email was Your Family Room Can Be Stylish and Super Comfortable. This past Christmas my son was visiting and said, “Mom, your furniture looks really good but it’s not very comfortable.” Ouch! I know he’s right though. We bought our sofa and recliner online during Covid (not a good idea for the family room). I literally live an hour down the road from Highpoint, NC and when we are able to get out again, I want to make some more intentional choices that look AND FEEL good!
This is absolutely gorgeous! Can you share the source of the art or links to similar pieces?
So pretty. Do you have a link to the coral paintings over the sofa? I love the colors. Thanks.
No sorry, Jacqueline bought them several years ago.
WHAT A DELIGHTFUL WAY TO STORE WINE!
I know…fun!
Yes, stunning. But all I can think about is a toddler’s handprints and drool all over that glass or acrylic, or whatever it is!!
