Seven Valuable DECORATOR STYLING Tips

Good morning! Here are some valuable decorator styling tips that come in handy for me all the time!

1. Style in Threes

Especially on a square or round coffee table or on a mantel or bookshelf.

2. Lighting

Even if you have overhead lighting, it’s important to have ambient lighting for evening and reading…usually at least three sources.

3. Symmetry

Symmetry provides a pleasing balance. Victoria Hagan uses it here along with sufficient ambient lighting (and notice the three items on the coffee table).

4. Add fresh flowers and greenery or branches

5. Use designer fabrics when possible

They can really elevate your look. If you don’t have a decorator, you can look on Etsy, McGee and Co. or sites like WS Home or One King’s Lane.blue and white designer pillows light blue embroidered designer pillow and cashmere throw blanket seven decorator styling tips

That’s it… seven decorator styling tips: style in threes, provide ambient light (three sources), add fresh flowers or greenery, strive for symmetry, designer fabrics elevate your look, group your collections and edit your things to what you truly love!

Speaking of decorator styling tips… after I read Sherry Hart’s post on World Market finds, I had to run over there! We have the original one down the street. I picked up this colorful dhurrie rug (the goal is to distract the eye from the dated kitchen 🙂  It’s soft, too.

Also, on Saturday Howard and I saw “Crazy Rich Asians.” I thought it was great!  I read the first two books (Amazon) and just bought the third, “Rich People Problems” now that it is out in paperback (I’m cheap that way).

  1. Brilliant list. Perfect for the book I want you to write 😉

  2. Great advice, and a great reminder. I have a tendancy to revert back to too much in the way of accessories. It’s gotten better but it’s nice to be reminded about editing.

    1. I was laughing too, Gail. I think I will take my mom to see it again when I am in San Diego. 🙂

  5. Great tips. I had always been told to group objects in odd numbers as it is more pleasing to the eye. Your home is beautiful! Thank you for sharing. I am new to your blog and am enjoying it very much.

    1. Yes, Nancee I should have mentioned threes or fives or odd numbers…all about balance.

  6. These look great. I am going to walk around my house and look for threes. Such an easy tip to use!

  7. I am always so impressed with the fabrics I see on Etsy. Great examples and I love the new rug! I haven’t stopped in World Market lately – time for a trip! Enjoy your week!
