This past weekend, we flew across the country for
The FLORIDA/GEORGIA GAME–click here for more info
Kind of a big deal in our house since my husband attended the University of Florida
and now our son is a freshman there.
The game takes place in the neutral territory of Jacksonville, FL
and the tailgating is sort of an
“Epic American Cultural Phenomenon.”
When is the last time you had luke warm, foamy beer from a keg?
That’s right, at a frat party (one of our many stops).
The Bulldogs and Gators party together happily.
Gator chips next to a Bulldog cake…and they ALL agree on peanuts…
boiled or roasted?

the Gators lost 20-24 |
I am not really a football person…
but do you have something FUN like this in your town?
but do you have something FUN like this in your town?
Next post: Mark’s and Mercedes’ beautiful Atlantic Beach (next to Jacksonville) home.
Thanks for visiting.
PS. We missed our flight connection (due to bad weather in the northeast)
so we are spending the night in a Houston airport hotel…not blog worthy.
Oh well, it was still a fun weekend.
That looks like way too much fun. Been a while since I have been to a good tailgate. How many varieties of peanuts you got there? I see at least 4 bowls on that small table!
Since I am from Atlanta….I have lots of Georgia alumni in my family!!! I know you had fun, especially seeing your son.
looks like a great time!

Isn't it fun?
So glad you were able to go and have this wonderful memory!!

Looks like fun times 10!! I wish we had fun football games like this in college…I went to Cal Poly SLO and they weren't too into that scene! Makes me miss the nights at NHHS! 🙂
Oh, I can remember attending this game, many years ago. My daughter came a few years after me. You can get into a lot of trouble in that stadium. Only after my daughter was grown and married did she tell me about trying to go for the goal post. Seems I came close to having to get her out of the "poky". Wonder what else I don't know.
Looks like everyone had a great time.
Hugs, Ginger
I grew up in a die-hard Gator family. In fact, "We are the Boys from Old Florida" was played at my dad's memorial service. (He was on the 1936 swim team.) I broke the ranks and went to another college…then, GASP, I married an Auburn man. With all the football games I have attended…all over the country…the UF/UGA game is still one of the most exciting events around. Glad you had the opportunity to attend it with your family and friends.
GO GATORS…unless they're playing Auburn 🙂
(I was in Alabama for that game!)
We don't do anything so big here in my little mountain town but now and then we "get out" and celebrate. Go Heels!!
Warm beer from a keg? Isn't that how it's always drunk? Just kidding! Looks like a ton of fun! I love to tailgate. Thanks for sharing.
Oh my gosh, I live in Jacksonville! I've grown up in Jacksonville and this city shuts down for FL-GA. Looks like you had fun! How does your son like Gainesville…he's a long way from home?
Go Gators!!!
I'm a forever GA fan and I grew up near Jax, so this game is one of the highlights of fall for me! i missed it this year bc i was in philly, but you better believe i watched it!

My daughter/blog partner is a UGA grad. She has been to that party many times. I love your blog. We have it on our sidebar. I also love Newport Beach. I have many good memories from there. You might know my friend.
Nothing like SEC football. We take our football and tailgating very seriously! cute post! M.
Looks like a ball! Don't you love having kids in college? Sometimes I want a do over!
Looks like so much fun…love all the blue and orange!
I'm not much of a football either but looks like a fun trip. I have a couple of die hard Giants fans here – many years of tailgating there!!
I'm not much of a football person either, but call it an "outdoor cocktail party" and I'm there! Looks like you had a fun weekend 🙂
Mary Ann,
THAT is my favorite thing about football…tailgating! 🙂
That looked pretty fun, loved all the orange and blue clothes.

Mary Ann, How fun, there is nothing like spending time around a bunch of young people for an occasion like this. Keeps us young at heart. It looked like a blast!! happy Halloween,
Kathysue
Keg beer……..mmm.
What a fun trip! What a great time for your family!
Fun!!
Now this is what fall is all about, isn't it?! Sounds — and looks like — you guys had a great time. Safe travels….
What fun! We had hoped to do the same thing with our daughter this weekend, but the snow storm kept us in NYC! Looks like you had great weather!
Truly an epic tailgating event. We love tailgating with our Clemson Tigers friends as much as we can. The best part is meeting our son's friends who stop by before or after the game. Those kids are well-fed on Saturdays as they make the rounds!
Hey sweetie,
How FUN!!! I've never been to a football game and it seems to be wonderful! I'm so glad you had a great time.
Have a Happy Halloween!

Have to say I am not a big football fan but the tailgate parties can be loads of fun and when you throw in good food, then I am there!
Looks like a great time and anything that brings family and friends together for…..sounds good to me. Safe travels home.
I just dropped in to say 'Hi' … Glad to see you that you are having fun ;D
Hope you made it home!
Sounds like fun. We did the tailgate thing yesterday for USC and Stanford. What a game!
Hope you have a good week.
Cindy
Mary Ann, what a great week end. I am glad you got to see your son. Julie
I am well acquainted with tailgating in the SEC. Roll Tide Roll!! Sorry you were stranded in Houston.
That looked like so much fun. Sorry to hear you missed your connection though. Glad you had fun!

Mary Ann- I remember those days- I used to live in FL! Anyway, now living in Green Bay-this area is famous for their tailgating parties. Some of them use china and have everything catered in…fine linens, etc. Then there are others that cook over a 10 gallon drum and call it a feast! It is fun to just walk through and see what everyone is doing. The party starts as soon as the gates open here~ xo Diana
GA fans here even though I could care less about football. I heard GA won. Usually Fl. wins this. Oh, well.
Looks like a lot of fun! Can't wait for that beach house post!! Already looks amazing:) Have a safe trip home.
I love a good tailgate and this looks like SO much fun – I think the food is the best part (not the warm keg beer – ha!). Looks like you had a great time (except for the unexpected overnight).
Da da da da da da GO GATORS!!!! Too bad we lost! But those games are fun! Haven't been to a Florida Georgia game in years, but I do remember drinking too much at the last one I went to back when I was 21!
Dear Mary Ann,
What fun!
Glad you got to see your son and enjoy
special time with family.
Best,
CBO
