Springtime… breathe it in. Even if it’s still cold where you are here are six easy ways to refresh your home (updated for Spring in 2023).
When thinking about refreshing your home, start with a good spring cleaning of the rooms, some decluttering, and new eyes on what may be looking a little “tired.” In my case, I wanted to add a bit more texture.
We have some respected bloggers to join us with their Spring Refresh recommendations, too. Their links are at the end of the post.

You can see how we created a statement wall with a gallery wall.
Change Your Lampshade
The paper shades on our chandelier had yellowed. So it was time to swap them out for some textured ones from Ballard (on sale).
Note: There are some affiliate links at no extra charge to you. Thank you.

But look at all your lampshades and periodically change outdated ones for fresh ones! I like Cruel Mountain Designs on Etsy, Pottery Barn, Ballard (on sale), and sometimes Target!
Fertilize And Trim Your Houseplants
Time to give your plants some Springtime love. I make sure to use Miracle Grow Indoor Plant Food in early Spring and Fall. More on the subject here.

I like the little watering can (only $20) that I read about on Make Mine a Spritzer.

Mix Up Your Pillow Covers
I already had all of these throw pillows (one is even 10 years old). The new thing I did here was changing the color combo to all rust, peach, and pops of apricot. Look at what you have and consider bringing some in from another room for a fresh feel.

Or it might be time to buy new ones. This updated post may be helpful: Freshen Up with PILLOWS! My Favorite Sources.
Edit Accessories
Sometimes just pairing back accessories in your living room can give you a new look. I cleaned off our coffee table and added the tray (on sale at Serena and Lily). In fact, everything is 20% off right now.

The vase and candle (called Salt Meadow–smells great) are from Anthropologie…A treat after I realized that they would go with my new pillow color scheme. The tulips provide a pop of color.
A New Bed For Your Pooch
Chief’s bed cushion was washed in the machine. And he got an upgrade with this handmade basket from Africa! It has rave reviews on Etsy. This is a size medium. It’s really well made.

“It takes days of labor for a weaver to make only one basket. So, all of our handmade dog bed baskets are completely unique works of art”.
Bring In Some Branches (and Flowers, of course)
No new decor here except a client gave me those branches from her garden. I just moved the artwork in here from another room.

Those tulips are from Trader Joe’s. Aren’t the colors perfect? When I had blue pillows in here, I used blue hydrangea or really whatever caught my fancy at the grocery store. I also use a plant on the coffee table instead of fresh flowers sometimes.

Are you planning any Spring changes?

Let’s see what these ladies have in mind…
Lampshades are the perfect way to refresh a room! I had not thought of that. As for the dog bed…it is amazing. I am trying to decide if I need one or two, two of my pups will share a bed, the other always likes her own. Have a wonderful weekend Mary Ann.
Mary Ann,
This post has some wonderful ideas. I especially like the idea of a few new lampshades. I’ve gradually been updating shelves and table decor for a fresh start with the season. I enjoy the process and love the changes.

Mary Ann,
The Cruel Mount Artisan Lampshade Studio is an incredible source. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.
The rattan shades bring an updated texture to your chandelier in a wonderful playful way.

Thanks, Diney!
These are all wonderful tips, Mary Ann! I’m afraid I neglect fertilizing my houseplants too often, thanks for the reminder! So happy to join the Spring party with you today!
Thanks, Jennifer. Loved your post!
Great spring touches. Loving the apricot colors in your room. Fun new touches
P.S. I wanted to say Chief looks darling in his news bed! What a cool find.. I will tell my doggy peeps.
He likes it!
Mary Ann so many great ideas. Love the new shades in wicker and the peach and apricot pillows. Peach has always been an under the radar color in home decor. My grandma had a curved low peach sofa in the 60’s and it was stunning. I think peach is coming back in a big way this year….and it looks fab with so many pretty flowers like your tulips. Lovely all of it! This is so great to do with you. I am always learning and absorbing so much from you talented women. xo Kim
I would like to know where you found the little round riser. Thanks.
I bought it at a little shop in Napa but I saw something similar at Anthropologie.
Mary Ann you are a genius when it comes to pillows. You always come up with a fresh combination that is to die for. I love Chief’s new bed! I wish Beau was small enough to have a stylish bed. He looks like an ad all curled up in it. Those tulips from TJ’s just look fabulous with your new look! I am really loving interesting lamp shades aren’t you? So much fun!
Thanks, Cindy…high praise coming from YOU!
Mary Ann! I noticed your new lamp shades right away! Love them! And the apricot/peach pillows with those tulips are so lovely! I also love the candle and accessories on the wood trivet on the tray. It’s these little touches that are so perfectly you! Love them!
And Chiefs dog bed…looks so nice!
