Simple Kitchen Styling Ideas For Personal Expression

Regardless of the size and age of your kitchen, you can make it fresh and personal with some simple styling ideas. Let’s look what I have done in my kitchen along with some other lovely kitchens.

There is also a chicken and mushroom recipe and more. It’s Sunday Faves time with Annie and Cindy.

Accessories From Our Kitchen – Mixing New With Items From Our Travels

I am constantly changing the centerpiece on the island. This has a vintage jug that I bought at a flea market in Beaune, France and a paper maché candle stick from Merci in Paris. I light a candle most nights around dinner time from a stash of half used tapers that I have. The tray is from Pottery Barn.

I bought the waxed amaryllis bulbs before Christmas and they are just now blooming. They are in the oil and vinegar cruet holder that we purchased years ago in Italy. Note the white dish dish rack to the left of the sink (that can also be put over the sink to dry pots, etc). It rolls up. I got a dark one for my sister.

Art in a kitchen is a great idea. I love the painting that Artist Pat Huber did of Louisa, Dolly and me on the beach. We like to keep our tomatoes out of the refrigerator in berry bowls.

This bread board adds warmth and protects the tile grout from cooking splatters. It’s my first purchase from Magnolia Home.

Flattering J. Crew Cardigan

We had dinner at our friends Dende and Rallis’ home (notice their pretty kitchen on the right) and Mercedes wore this beautiful ivory cardigan sweater (on sale). And I just ordered this ivory cable knit cashmere cardigan.

Weeknight Chicken Stroganoff

Howard made this Quick Chicken Stroganoff from Bon Appetit (RECIPE here) this week. Not exactly low-cal but it’s delicious and Howard served up small portions.

  1. I love the color of your kitchen cabinets. Did you have them painted. If so would you share the paint color?

  2. That is such a clever idea using the cruet for the amarylis bulbs!! I never know what to do with those darn things! That Mercedes has the best taste! Love the bread board behind the stove!!

  3. Annie Diamond says:

Mary Ann, I love all your small details in your kitchen. So many warm touches. That painting of you and Louisa is adorable. Is that new? It’s so beautiful!

  4. MA! Your kitchen always looks so streamlined and pretty. What a great idea for the wax bulbs, funny that they’re just blooming now. I’m pinning and printing that recipe. xo

  5. Lots of good things today. Your kitchen looks so nice and uncluttered. Love how you’re using the cruet holder for the bulbs! The chicken stroganoff looks delicious. And the picture of you, your granddaughter and Dolly on the beach is the best of all. Have a great week. Hope it warms up for you in Florida and here in Illinois too.
