6 Easy Ways To Lighten Your Home Decor For Summer
As the days grow longer and the temperatures rise, it’s the perfect time to lighten your home decor for summer. “Summertime and the living is easy!” I think less is more during this time.
Decorating you home for summer can be simple and not cost much. Here are some favorite tips to help you refresh your home.
And I’m joining Cindy and Annie for their weekly favorite things, too.
Lighten Your Home Decor For Summer First: Clean and Simplify
The summer season is the perfect time to declutter and simplify your living space. Clear out any unnecessary items on surfaces that add visual weight.
I cleaned and removed some items from our kitchen counters and dining table.

Our everyday décor in the dining room is ready for an easy summer without a tablecloth.
Consider a Neutral Color Scheme And Calming Shades of Blue And Green
Start by transitioning to a neutral color palette. Soft whites, creams, and light sand shades can create a fresh, clean look that amplifies natural light.

In my case, I replaced some darker throw pillows for these in a lighter shade from Ballard Design.
Include Light and Breezy Fabrics
Summer is the time to swap out heavy fabrics for lighter, more breathable materials in cotton and linen. In fact, when I was in the Ballard store to purchase the above pillows, I saw lots of pretty fabrics and a nice wool rug.
Have you shopped Ballard recently?

In our living room, I put away heavier throw blankets. I’m also using fewer pillows on the sofas.

Add Natural Elements Such As Plants And Greenery From The Garden
Bringing nature indoors is a great way to enhance the light and airy feel of your home and it can be free (like these leafy branches from our yard!).

Incorporate natural elements like rattan, wicker, and bamboo through furniture and accessories.

Houseplants or fresh flowers can bring a pop of color and a refreshing touch of the outdoors into your space. In our case, this miniature palm tree (from Home Depot) lightens the fireplace box.
Maximize Natural Light
Make the most of the abundant summer sunlight by washing the windows to allow maximum light to enter.

Refresh Your Accessories Using What You Already Have In New Ways
Swap out dark, heavy decor items for lighter elements like I did here on our coffee table using what I already had. Consider using coastal-inspired accessories such as seashells, coral, or driftwood.

Use candles with fresh summer scents like citrus, lavender or ocean breeze. Or l love the way these unscented dripless pillar candles from Amazon provide a nice glow.
To Sum Up Summer Decor Ideas:
Lightening your home decor for summer is all about creating bright, airy, and clean spaces . By incorporating light fabrics and natural elements, maximizing natural light, and simplifying your decor, you can transform your home into a serene summery retreat.
Since we are having guests soon, our next refresh for the warm weather will be cleaning our outdoor spaces like the front porch, patio and balcony. Stay tuned for that!
