Here’s why I love Battery-Operated Flicker Candles. Real candles are nice for their scent and ambiance but artificial flicker flame candles are a great alternative as they are safer and provide a convenient glow in hard-to-reach places.

I’ll show you examples of the best flameless candles in my decor. Along with my glass cupboards two ways, the silver cleaning method you should know, a great reading app, and a good book.
It’s Five Faves time with Cindy and Annie!
The Case For Battery-Operated Real Wax Flicker Candles

Realistic Battery-Operated Flickering Wax Candles (like the one above) are not cheap but they last a long time. In addition they:
- Illuminate bookshelves, darker corners, and harder-to-teach places
- Won’t blow out or with wind or ceiling fans
- Have a motion faux flame with an amber flicker to mimic the light of a real candle
- They last longer, can be timed, and use a remote
- Safer than traditional candles with open flames
I was at a party once where a candle in the hosts’ powder room started to over-burn and shot soot up the wall (I blew it out–but there was damage). I’ve heard of unattended candles starting fires.

Here an ivory electric candle on a five-hour timer is in a capiz shell hurricane lantern (20% off right now) in our powder room. A nice glow without danger!
I buy most of my premium battery-powered candles at Pottery Barn but you can also buy flameless candles by Luminara Candles (a good brand) on Amazon.

The Battery-Operated Flicker Candle on our backyard patio won’t blow out with the ceiling fans above it. The woven hurricane and tray were from Homegoods.
I’d like to have flameless taper candles and some flameless tea lights for our dining room.

My Cupboards — Which Do You Like Better?
I felt like simplifying all the colors in our glass cupboards (this can be seen in the kitchen, dining room, and living room).

Looking at this photo on the right, I’m thinking I could use another basket on the top left for balance.
What do you think?
Simple Silverware Cleaning Method

I talk about the method here: Super Easy Way to Polish Your Silverware. This gets a lot of the tarnish off but this time I did have to use a little silver polish afterward on a couple of pieces. It’s better if you do this in a single layer, but I was being lazy.
What To Read For FREE
I’ve been recommending the Libby app for years but many people (including my OWN family) have not tried it. The only downside is that sometimes you have to wait for a book…but it’s not that bad!
With Libby, you can borrow from your library for free ebooks, digital audiobooks, and magazines. All you need is a library card.
Watch the getting started video.
I just finished the audio version of:
“Someone Else’s Shoes” by Jojo Moyes It has British and American characters and is read with both accents. This is a quick, funny, sad, mystery, sort of “beach read”. I loved it.
Chief’s Favorite Time Of The Day
…is around 6:30 pm. He’s had dinner and the flameless candles just came on! The one on the coffee table is real, and smells great from Anthropologie (on sale now)…the others are faux.

Most Lovely Things

I love flameless candles and regular candles. I concur with Cindy, I am too lazy to turn mine on sometimes too.
I purchased a great set one year at Aldi with remote and they look and smell beautiful.
Love the cabinet on the right!
I love Liby! I do not know why more people do not take advantage of free books and magazines! I currently have 39 magazines on my app from Australia, France, Spain, and the UK…all free.
Have a wonderful week Mary Ann, looking forward to your collaboration with Annie.
I love my Luminara candle! My grandson and granddaughter enjoy turning it on with the remote lol. I actually scored mine brand new at the thrift store last year for $4.00. I guess they didn’t realize how much they retail for. I hardly ever light a real candle anymore unless it’s a scented candle like a Voluspa.
wow…great deal Linda!
Mary Ann, those candles are such a brilliant idea for book cases especially! I love that you can put them on a timer too! I remember the ones you had in those cool vessels from Australia…I think, in your San Francisco apartment built in shelves! They really are perfect in so many areas!
I still have those and my friend gave me some more!!! I think a table setting idea is forming 🙂
I love my battery operated candles (mostly purchased the Luminara via Amazon) My husband appreciates the ambiance they provide, but noticed how quickly I was using up batteries, so he ordered the rechargable batteries and charging stations from Amazon. We figure in the long run it is more economical, environmental friendly.
Yes…a lot of our batteries are rechargeable too!
Mary Ann, I also love the battery candles. The timers now are so cool. They are instant ambiance as I like dimmer lighting in the evenings. I also found a few solar ones last year for outdoors- and those are on timers and don’t ever need batteries, which is great. I am going to check out some of your suggestions as I need a few new ones. I love the new cabinet look!
Chief is so cute. Hope you have a great holiday weekend! xo
What a great idea to have solar-powdered candles!
I’m voting for the cabinet on the right. The added color in the left photo, is a bit distracting.
And I agree with you, on the Premium Battery Flickering Candles, from Pottery Barn. I usually wait till they are on sale, and with my rewads. I even have the outdoor ones in my hanging, and floor lanterns in our gazebo.
That sounds beautiful, Jill.
Totally agree about flameless candles! I have about a dozen or so scattered around my living spaces and it creates such a lovely ambiance to come home to after a long day at work. When I want a fragrance boost, I light a real one. (And yes to the new glass cupboard styling!)
Absolutely the right one.🇨🇦🇨🇦
Thanks, Mary! Go Canada! My mom was raised there.
Thanks, Deanne!
So sweet to know that Chief appreciates a bit of aromatherapy! Your Powder Room wallpaper is great – not sure I had seen that in previous posts.
I’m voting for the cabinet on the right.
Thanks for weighing in, Stacy!
I love battery operated candles but love real ones too!! I use both. I am too lazy to turn mine on all the time so mine last quite awhile ha ha!
