Today I want to show you the bright modern coastal condo remodel that we just toured (trying to entice family here). Also how we are using the juicer that I received for Christmas. And there’s more as it’s Five Fave time with Annie and Cindy!
1. Modern Coastal Condo Remodel
A few days ago, my daughter, sister and I went to check out a remodeled two bedroom small condo just steps from the ocean that is for sale. It’s close to us (thinking perhaps we could convince my sister to move to Florida–probably a long shot but you never know).
I was impressed with the flooring, wall and ceiling treatments and the fun lighting in this beach condo.
The sconces in the living room make a statement.
So do the lighting fixtures in one of the bathrooms.
The office alcove in the primary bedroom would also be a nice dressing area with a makeup table and natural light. It is next to a large walk in closet.
I love the exposed brick look and wood plank ceiling. The ceramic pendants look fresh and are affordable.
The condo is small (no dining room or garage–but two reserved parking spaces). This island serves as a dining table. It still feels livable and is less than a half a block to the ocean.
The open shelves display accessories and dishes in the kitchen area. The blue green cabinetry is a nice departure from neutrals for a coastal feel.
This year round “vacation home” is close to Atlantic Beach’s shops and restaurants, too.
2. Smart Meat Thermometer Works Great!
Kitchen-Aid Yummly Meat Thermometer is made for your oven, stovetop, grill, or smoker. The Yummly Smart Thermometer monitors temperatures as your food cooks and tells you on your smart phone.
My son, Tommy cooked this tenderloin perfectly on Christmas Day with the Yummly Meat Thermometer.
3. Healthy Fresh Juice For The New Year!
Tommy and his girlfriend, Mona make healthy vegetable and fruit juice once a week. They both swear by the benefits for digestion and inflammation. And Mona has beautiful hair which she thinks is partially due to celery juice (as it causes your body to produce collage with vitamin C).
They gave me the Housnat Juicer for Christmas and I love it!
They bought two bunches of celery, one bunch of carrots, apples, ginger and tumeric root (you could add fruit like pineapple and cayenne, too). Mona showed me how to use it and clean it….oddly satisfying!
I want to make juice for the week once a week, too. I’ve got to lose some weight too! (I’ll start that on January 2)!
Tip: My sister freezes her extra juice in ice cube trays.
4. Personalized Aprons
Our daughter, Alexandra bought personalized aprons for the cooking crew, and even a child size for Louisa (who loves her little kitchen by the way).
5. What To Watch: Maestro on Netflix
Howard, my daughter, son-in-law and I enjoyed “Maestro” about the complicated lifelong relationship of conductor-composer Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre. It stars Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan.
Thanks so much for joining me each week!

If your sister doesn’t buy it, I will. Happy New Year! xo

Hi Mary Ann,
The guys and Louisa look so great in their personalized aprons. A perfect gift.
A juicer is an excellent idea. Hope it fills you up and gives you the energy you need. I like gifts that are good for your health. This is one that will keep giving.
You look adorable in your floral blouse.
Happy healthy everything in 2024.

Don’t give up on convincing your sister to move to JAX. My sister and brother in law just moved 2 blocks away from us in Avondale. It’s been marvelous!
Mary Ann Pickett says
Then there may be hope, Margie! I hope Teresa reads your comment!
Joan says
Love that condo: it looks well-thought out and nicely finished, not JUST pretty! And a very nice induction-top range, too. Does Tommy brown his tenderloin before putting it in the oven? I’ve only cooked beef tenderloin once, and did the browning step and am curious if it’s a must.
Happy New Year, Mary Ann!

I’m not Mary Ann, but in case she doesn’t get back to you, I’ll answer your question–at least the way I do it. No, don’t bother with browning or searing the tenderloin. I stuff mine with garlic slivers and cover it with ground peppercorns; my sister uses a variety of herbs. Rub the whole thing with a bit of olive oil. Place it in a roasting pan and roast at 450 degrees for 15 minutes, then reduce to 350 for 25 minutes for medium rare–less time (like 20 min) for rare, longer for medium, etc. I have used a leave-in thermometer like the Yummly (mine is by Thermapen), but if the tenderloin is at room temperature to start, this timing method has never failed me. One of the easiest things to prepare.

Thanks, Mary for your advice. I forwarded Joan’s comment to Tommy also. I’m sure he will get back to us eventually.

I love juicing, it’s a great way to add more nutrients to daily life. I like adding about a teaspoon of the pulp into my juice cup to lower the glicemic index. And the reminiscent pulp I toss on the garden it’s a great fertilizer. Celery with apples is my favorite combo . Happy new year to you and your crew! Fingers crossed your sister will move to Florida
Mary Ann Pickett says
Good ideas how to use the pulp. We also heard you could use some in a Japanese style salad dressing. I’m looking forward to making different combos! I have a pineapple that needs to be cut up. Happy New Year!

Could you PLEASE give me the manufacturer and color of the flooring in your lovely flooring in your newly done, beautiful condo? Exactly what I have been looking for literally for 2 years!!
I look forward to your blog and I admire your dedication to making our world more beautiful- thank you soooo much!

or the Weathered Ash has less knots
Pam says
Just eat the carrots, celery and apples and you get all their fiber too.😊
Mary Ann Pickett says
We eat lots of fruits and vegetables, too Pam, with every meal. This is just an extra boost.
Linda says
Could you give recipe for the juice and how much do you drink each day. Thanks.
Mary Ann Pickett says
I drink about a half a cup each morning. The recipe is more or less to taste. Starting with the celery and carrots, then apples (or other fruit for sweetness)…and then ginger and tumeric depending on how much you like the flavor. It’s not really exact. But fun.
