Classic Blue, White and Walnut Bathroom–Before and After

April 16, 2024 By Mary Ann Pickett 21 Comments

Good morning! This is an updated post of my client, Lori’s renovated blue and white  bathroom in San Diego, California. This bathroom is also the downstairs powder room.

Lori wanted the downstairs powder bath to feel more coastal in keeping with their indoor/outdoor lifestyle and already updated kitchen.

Classic Blue and White Bathroom Remodel

Here is the after with the new blue bathroom vanity, white countertop and undermount sink …

but also see where we started…

Mood Board Bathroom Design

The existing walnut colored flooring needed to co-exist with the new vanity color…and navy blue looks pretty with it.

30″ Blue Vanity To Fit in Small Bathroom’s Spaces

The handsome Signature vanity set with a white quartz countertop was ordered from Wayfair. The vanity is no longer in stock, but there are other dark blue cabinets available such as this one on Amazon and this one from Pottery Barn.

In fact, we are currently renovating two bathrooms for my sister and you may like these stylish 48″ wood vanities with marble countertops.

White And Blue Mosaic Tile Selection

Oversized white subway tile was used on the shower walls and blue porcelain penny tile on the shower pan and niche with darker grout than the on the wall tiles. I like to use a medium grout color on the floor as with the blue tile since floor grout is so hard to keep clean.

We used a clear glass frameless shower door.

Accent Shelving As A Focal Point On The Bathroom Wall

The walnut shelving ties in with the flooring and provides decorative open storage for accessories.

White Walls With Horizontal Planking To The Ceiling

The walls were covered in white horizontal planking that adds texture and feels appropriate with other parts of the house. You can see me in mirrors…impossible not to be in the photo 🙂

The brass mirror is by Rejuvenation as is the tubular vanity light.

One more before photo…

Mixed Fixture Metals

The warmer metal finishes of oil rubbed bronze, brass and polished nickel are mixed.

That’s Lori’s Classic Blue and White Bathroom. We also updated Lori’s family room and fireplace here.

Would you mind sharing the brand/name of the white tile you used on walls of the shower? The texture in it is beautiful!

A great transformation Mary Anne…what a difference! My husband just heard something on line last night on Marketplace that bathroom remodels have the most return vs. kitchens. Who knew?

Happy Birthday to your mom…that’s quite a milestone! I agree you should do a post on her! Glad the weather warmed up down here this weekend for. your visit…we are going to take advantage and work outside this afternoon.

I just the bathroom transformation! Do you remember the type of toilet you had installed? I’m looking for a replacement and I Like the detailing of the top of the tank.

Love this look. Currently installing an outdoor bathroom by my pool and would love to know exactly the wall planking. Where did she buy them and what are they called? Does not look like hardy boards? Can you be more specific with the wall covering? Thank you!

Happy Birthday to your mom! How wonderful to be celebrating her 95!

This bathroom is lovely. I love the fact that you purchased many items from big box stores and Wayfair.

Love your blog. However, there are always horizontal lines with the categories available and I can’t seem to get rid of them and enjoy your lovely photos. Is there a way to work around these?
