How Golden Yellow In Home Decor Can Add Joy And Other Happy Things

March 30, 2025 By Mary Ann Pickett 17 Comments

Have you noticed lately the prevalence of the color golden yellow in home decor? It’s the color of happiness, cheerfulness and optimism. You can start with pops of yellow if you’re not ready for a big commitment (like a yellow sofa or painting a whole room in golden yellow).

Let’s explore this in interior design along with other favorite things with Annie and Cindy.

Golden Yellow Is Back For Decor

We see lots of refreshing shades of sunshine in a recent “Country Living” issue (April/May 2025) featuring this cottage on Cape Cod.

Golden yellow is especially pleasing and adds warmth mixed with white in bedrooms.

In this living room, notice the bit of yellow in the throw pillows and flowers.

Ways To Incorporate Golden Yellow Home Decor Accents

Fresh Flowers: Daffodils are in season (although our Trader Joe’s was out of them). Any yellow flower looks fresh especially tulips and sunflowers.

Lemons are also a great way to add a splash of yellow…

This cheerful color is pretty mixed with navy accent pieces.

Yellow Decor Accessories

  • Pretty Throw Pillows like these above are fun to change seasonally (links are following in “Shop Yellow Accents”)
  • Lemon Blossom Scent: I am intrigued by this new scented candle from Crate & Barrel: ” The Paris scent blends herbal bergamot with sweet jasmine and lily of the valley.”
  • Buttercup Yellow Gingham Fabric Lampshade so cute for your rechargeable cordless lamps.
  • Yellow Dishes to mix with earthy tones like brown rattan.
  • Cloth Printed Napkins
  • Staub Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven in mustard comes in different sizes and is pretty enough to leave out on your stove.
  • Fresh Bed Linens and Blankets in yellow hues make a room feel welcoming.

Also, I feel like this ochre and yellow table cloth could inspire a great alfresco party! Perhaps I could ask for this for Mother’s Day.

For Your Mind: Learn A New Language

For about five minutes each day, I’ve been keeping up with my “pretty basic” French skills for free with Duolingo. It’s fun. Try it for a language you could use on your next trip like to Spain, Italy or Japan!

Protein Breakfast Smoothie Vogue Magazine

Increase your muscle gain (something we all need especially as we age). According to the magazine: “We need roughly a gram of protein per pound of body weight. In addition to helping increase muscle mass, tissue repair, and hormone balance, a high-protein breakfast will help you feel satiated for longer and the rest of the day.”

Ingredients:

  • 1 serving of vanilla-flavored protein powder (I bought EnergyFirst Proenergy Vanilla but I’m not crazy about the Stevia taste…any recommendations?)
  • 1 cup of frozen berries
  • 1 scoop unsweetened Greek yogurt
  • 1 cup spinach
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tablespoon chia
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • Ice to taste

Yellow is having a moment and I’m enjoying it. Especially the warmer, softer shades. Your salad is a work of art and I’m hopping over to catch up with the blue baby shower. Fun! Wishing you, Cindy, Annie and Kris a super fun – and productive! – time at your lovely beach house! xoxo

I can only imagine the fun you, Annie, Cindy and Kris will have together. There’s nothing better than girl time with some of your “Besties!” Can’t wait to hear all about it and see photos too! Have a blast!

Mary Ann, I love yellow in my house and have a few pops of it in the main room. My mom always loved it and it seems very 70’s California to me, which is fun.. This is a darling house and you found great things. I use Vital Proteins Collagen in my coffee with almond milk. It has no flavor. xo

We love the Orgain Vegan Superfood smoothie powder. My son loves the Chocolate but the vanilla is great. Agree I do no care for the stevia flavor and this is pretty low taste, when mixed with fruit it just provides a nice creamy vanilla background.

    Hi Mary Ann,
I used to use various brands of protein in my morning smoothies. I was not that fond of the taste. My husband
has his own recipe, and it work for my constitution. I’m open to try a protein powder to add to what I already have made for me each morning. I need lots of protein because of what my DEXA scan results show.
To get additional protein I’m back on Knudsen Lowfat Cottage Cheese small curd, that has a good amount of protein. Also Peanut Butter is another good source of protein, I love the PB with nuts.
The blue and white bridal shower that you shared, is GORGEOUS, wow. Nice, now two boys.
I’m sure Cindy, Annie, and your friend Kris will have a lovely time together mixed in with helping one another with social media. That world changes ever so quickly. You ladies seem to be all over it.
Howard was smart to get out of Dodge.

Love yellow but my pink beige undertone hard surfaces limit my options. Next house 🙂 Hope you girl’s have a blast and don’t stay up too late 🤪 Sorry about all the rain today. On the plus side it will wash away all the nasty pollen 👏 If I was closer I’d walk the beach trying to catch y’all and get your autograph 🤗

I use Vital Protein unflavored powder. Half a banana or berries for sweetness.

After watching my sil struggle to get enough protein, my nephews developed a whey protein powder called Pink Powder, I like the vanilla. Yes, it’s pink. But literally the only protein powder I can stand. I think you can get it on Amazon.

I love your blog, first time commenting. For protein powder, I recommend Orgain Simple. It is low sugar, and contains no artificial sweeteners, just coconut sugar. You can get it at Whole Foods. Thank you for your content!

Have a wonderful time with Annie, Cindy and Kris.
Yellow is not my favorite color but it looks lovely in all of these examples. I do however love yellow accents, like the lemons.
I have found that most protein powders have the after taste. I use Kachava and like it but I don’t add a lot of things to it.
    The salad looks delicious!

    Enjoy your week MaryAnn!
