Want to make your master bedroom fresh for Summer? Sort of like a stay-cation? Crisp hotel-like but homey feel?
- Buy new custom lamp shades. Mine are top quality and handmade by Lisa at Cruel Mountain Designs. Lisa actually gifted these to me in exchange for this mention (but I follow her on Instagram–and saw work she had done for Cindy Hattersley). I would have bought them anyway!
2. Cut the clutter. You may have already done this with Spring cleaning, but I just did it. All those magazines, notes, books and THINGS can be too much in the warmer months.
3. Add a plant or two like a fern or orchid…good for the air and so pretty.
I just bought these French country reclaimed pine dressers at High Point when I was there for the Design Bloggers Tour and I rehung those photos vertically (below).
4. Lighten up the bedding. I removed the down comforter and just have two lightweight quilts. The white/ivory one is from Target and the sand colored one is from Pottery Barn.
And speaking of Pottery Barn…I just saw this super fresh, lightweight paisley reversible bedding in the store…
5. Treat yourself to a new tray from PB (I couldn’t find it online but I bought it in the store).
You can use it with the legs or not…and the basket is removable (I can take the basket off and use the base to support my laptop).
I’m in San Diego to take Chief back to SF…he has been here at “summer camp” at my sister’s house while we were in Europe. Chief should get frequent flier miles! Have a great week!

I love the bed side dressers. Are these the 44 inch or the 30 inch width? Thank you, I love your blog!
44″ we needed the storage!
Can you tell I am catching up:) I just cleaned out my hoarding bedroom and took my PB diamond bedding to Goodwill! It was 10 years old so I will just have to buy a new one now after seeing yours folded on your bed!
Mine is pretty old, too…well, probably five years but it’s in great shape even with Chief…and I know Cami probably sleeps on your bed, too.
Love everything you do!!!!
I love everything you do, Joni!!
Love the lampshades! Thanks for the tip.
Your new bedside chests are perfect – I’m envious. I’ve been at a standstill furniture wise because I can’t seem to decide what color to paint my ceiling. That seems even dumber in writing than it sounds in my head. Decision made.
What color did you paint the ceiling 🙂 ???
Haha — well, it required a very highly technical operation to achieve the perfect color – mixing Decorator White into Revere Pewter until it looked about right. Ceiling accomplished. Now I want those bedside chests even more!
My favorite thing are the cool lamp shades. Off to check out the site!!
Love your summer bedroom and the tips. I saw that quilt in PB a couple of months ago and bought it when it went on sale and free shipping. I love it! So summery.
I love how it washes up so well too, Kim.
Your bedroom is just beautiful, so fresh and calming. Those shades are perfect and I’m mad for those reclaimed wood chests. I’ve got to redo my master bedroom and you’ve given me great ideas!
xoxo
What a nice and refreshing bedroom, love the whole thing. I love quilts and always have one on my bed. That quilt was a little cold here back in the winter, I live in NC. Looking for a down comforter for the winter, any ideas? I can’t stand heavy ones because I am so warm natured, ha!
Hello,
Your bedroom looks beautiful – so fresh and crisp -perfect for summer.
Is the Pottery Barn quilt – the natural color?
Thank you.
Yes…natural or sand I think.
So pretty!!
Thanks, TC!
love your bedroom Mary Ann, so fresh & crisp!
those shades really make the room, off to cruel mountain

I love your new nightstands but where did the white ones go? Are they for sale?
My daughter and I drove them down to L.A. (along with a few other things) for her apartment there. Her apartment is coming together! Thank you.
Thank you for replying. I’ll keep looking for some similar. I should try the Alameda Flea Market!
