Project Design: How To Create A Beautiful Bed

September 25, 2015 By Mary Ann Pickett Leave a Comment

A beautiful bed is one that you want to crawl into…it’s your sanctuary.

Colorful bedrooms for others who prefer them can be beautiful.   But for me, a neutral, calm palette feels right (let’s face it, there is a busy city life just outside our windows–so inside should be soothing).
Plus, a neutral scheme matches Chief.
Cindy from Rough Luxe and I were commenting how bedding (especially custom, like my bed curtains and throw pillows made by Liana) can really get costly.
That’s why you should shop sales…like the black and white hotel sheets I purchased from Restoration Hardware recently.
  • Take them out of the dryer slightly damp and hand smooth to achieve a pressed look.
  • Washing your sheets once a week is recommended.
  • Store your sheet sets in one of the pillow cases to keep them organized, like this…

This canopy bed was from Williams Sonoma Home.
Pottery Barn now carries a similar one HERE.
It’s nice to have a bench at the end of the bed.
Duvet covers are great but difficult to put back on after washing.  I prefer a light quilt over a down comforter that can be washed as needed.  And I take the down comforter off in summer.  This Belgian flax linen quilt (and the Euro shams) are from Pottery Barn.
The Simply Shabby Chic cotton quilt from Target gets softer with each washing, is durable and adds a fresh white layer.
Speaking of Target, I’ve spent a lot on down bed pillows (even at Tuesday Morning for over $120).  But my husband recently bought this one from Target…and I kept trying to steal it …
until I bought one for myself.
This is how our daughter, Alexandra puts on a clean duvet cover.
1.  turn the cover inside out (she looks like a ghost). 2.  Grab the corners of the comforter
3.  Flip the duvet cover over your head (good-bye coiffeur) and shake out

I’ve also used safety pins in the top corners and then shaken the cover down…it’s not that easy either!
Good night all!
