Favorite Things For A Tropical Paradise In The British Virgin Islands

Here are my favorite things for a tropical paradise stay such as great flip flops, swimsuit wear, an exotic tropical cocktail and more.

Last week, we were invited by friends to go to the British Virgin Islands with them. We stayed with Laura and Jack in their beautiful rented house at the Rosewood resort, Little Dix Bay on Virgin Gorda.

Look at those views. And there’s more as it’s Five Fave time with Annie and Cindy!

1. Hoka Makes Flip Flops Too!

I tried on Laura’s Hoka Ora Recovery Flip sandals. They were supportive (podiatrist approved) and feel like walking on clouds. Laura loves hers (and could wear them all the time). I want to buy a pair (they would be good for my sister, too).

Laura bought her flowy caftan at a boutique in Hawaii but here are some similar ones:

This was our view from the stairwell in the house…and actually all the rooms (even the bathrooms) had views of Little Dix Bay, BVI.

2. Wet Hair Brush After Swimming Or Snorkling

After being on a boat and snorkeling, Laura let me try out her hairbrush on my massively tangled hair. Her brush worked well and I’d like to have one in the shower and in my beach bag!

The first photo we were told is where the Corona Beer commercial was filmed and the second is the Little Dix Bay beach.

3. “Pain Killer” Tropical Cocktail Recipe

We had Painkiller cocktails at the Soggy Dollar Beach Bar. They call it “Soggy Dollar” as there is no dock and you swim in.

“A twist on the Piña Colada, the Painkiller is a rich and fruity cocktail that stays true to its name: It will cure what ails you.” ~ Liquor.com

After one cocktail, I was pretty “pain-free” getting back into the boat!

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces Pusser’s rum
  • 4 ounces pineapple juice
  • 1 ounce orange juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1 ounce cream of coconut
  • Garnish: nutmeg, freshly grated
  • Garnish: pineapple wedge

Steps

  1. Add the rum, pineapple juice, orange juice and cream of coconut to a shaker with cubed ice and shake vigorously but briefly to combine.
  2. Strain into a hurricane glass or snifter over crushed ice.
  3. Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg and a pineapple wedge.
  4. Serve with a straw.

4. J. Crew One Shoulder Bathing Suit And Matching Cover-up Shirt

Here I am about to go snorkeling. I really like how lightweight the cotton shirt is and it’s half price in white and olive. I have two of the one shoulder bathing suits. They are marked down, too.

Below are at the Little Dix Bay restaurants.

One of the BEST things on this vacation was being with Laura and Jack and having them all to ourselves. Especially now that we live in Florida and they are still in California.

5. Things For A Tropical Paradise: Tote, Sunglasses and Ivory Tortoise Shell Apple Watch Band

This was on the ferry back to the airport 🙁 Howard gave me the well-made, lightweight straw and leather bag for Mother’s Day. I love it. The kids gave me the ivory Apple watch band. I hinted a bit for it!

My Riley polarized sunglasses are $50 by Quince resemble some four times as much. The dress is from J. Crew a few years ago.

I loved the dresses you and Laura were wearing at the Little Dix Bay restaurant. Could you provide where they were purchased them?

  2. Hi Mary Ann,
What a beautiful spot to reconnect with friends! Lucky you.
All great items for travel or a staycation! I have the same one-shoulder suit in olive, love it! But sadly I have no place to wear it, yet.
I’m keeping fingers crossed for some warmer weather around here. Hope you’re enjoying Spring!

    Hi Mary Ann,
Oh wow, it looks and sounds like you had a wonderful vacation with your forever friends. The home that they rented looked amazing.
Having your friends just to yourself and one on one is the best.
The water looked like a beautiful blue.

  6. What a beautiful vacation and how it brought back so many memories of the Virgin Islands. In 1994 we chartered a 40’ bare boat with another couple and sailed around the Virgin Islands. The crystal clear water, beautiful white sand beaches, perfect weather and learning all about sailing with our very dear friends, who were experts at sailing. It was a wonderful adventure that I will never forget.

  7. Your vacation looks heavenly!!
