Today we have casual Autumn outfits for women over 50 along with recommendations from my stylish friends. Their links are at the end of the post.
I’m reporting from Italy with some Fall outfit looks that I took before I left the U.S. Included also are my Autumn fashion observations from Rome!
Transitional Casual Autumn Outfit With Sweater Vest And Sandals
Sandals with a block heel with trousers or jeans transition for casual outfits (I saw this in Rome, too). This is a new J. Jill knit short-sleeved cardigan vest with straight rolled blue jeans also from J. Jill.
I would give you the links but I can’t access the J.Jill website from Italy (probably because they don’t ship here).

The cozy sweater vest is nice for layering and is a casual look with Fall weather in mind. A white tee would be nice with the vest also.

2023 Fall Fashion Colors According to the Magazines
The color predictions for Fall from In Style, Who What Wear, and Pure Wow include fiery red, bright orange, magenta, dove grey, and brown.
Brown Cashmere Hoodie And Black Straight Jeans
You will love the heft, softness, and price of the Quince cashmere sweater (lots of colors) I am wearing it with my wardrobe staple Madewell black jeans (they come in petite, standard, tall, and plus sizes) and an Italian-made Quince quilted crossbody purse (both of which I have with me here in Italy).
The comfortable Madewell leather loafers are fashionable right now. You could also wear this casual fall outfit with sneakers.

Fall Outfit Ideas From Italy
It was fun to window shop and see oversized blazers, matching tops and bottoms, ankle-length pants, and the colors mentioned above.
Chunkier Jewelry As Accessories
I noticed that heavier jewelry, especially necklaces, were in shops such as…

The Italian brand Max Mara is less expensive in Italy. I bought the brown dress above last year in Rome. I’m with my daughter, Alexandra on our way to dinner near the Pantheon.
Those are casual Autumn outfits for women over 50. Let’s see what my friends are recommending for your Fall wardrobe.
mary ann, really fun to see your pics from Italy. Love the hoodie and the vest! Both seem like really great pieces and fun to style. I love the block heels!
Can’t wait to see what else you find in Italy! x
Mary Ann, your beautiful smile would make a burlap sack look couture. I am going to order the brown hoodie and the black bag. I’m so jealous you’re in Italy. Looking forward to hearing about your trip.
Hi Mary Ann
So fun hearing the Italian fashion report. Ditto to Joan’s comment above. I am glad to hear that chunky jewelry is being shown as well. I hope jewelry becomes like skirt lengths…anything goes. I am big-boned and tiny anything doesn’t look that great on me. I just love the Quince cashmere. Thank you for the introduction!
I love the Madewell loafers and thanks for showing what the windows in Rome look like now, it’s always so fun to see what other parts of the world are doing with fashion!
I love that short sleeved J Jill top – so great for VA this time of year…
Also loved hearing about the fashion in Rome – have a great time!!
Thanks, Gray~
Mary Ann! I love that brown Max Mara dress! I remember you wore it for Alexandra’s baby shower, and now here you are in Italy with Louisa a year later! What a year! Love that vest too!
xx
Thank you for the fashion update straight from Rome, Mary Ann: fun! I bought a beautiful MM bag in Torino/Turin in June. It is my favorite European brand. I’m interested/surprised that their windows are showing black leggings or very slim pants for this Fall, when everyone else seems to be going “classic trouser”. But the leggings with ballet flats and oversized coat is very cute and wearable. And I’m GLAD you are seeing some heavier jewelry this season: I have a lot of beautiful (investment) pieces I haven’t worn since the dainty layered look has been in fashion! (What is interesting about jewelry fashion is that it typically follows gold pricing: when the price of gold steeply rose, jewelry quickly scaled down to very fine looks!)
