Over 50 In New Maxi Dresses: Feel Fabulous Today
With the right fit, here’s how to feel fabulous over 50 in new maxi dresses. You can be comfortable, confident, and even colorful in one of today’s maxi dresses or skirts. This is a revised post to show maxi dresses that are available currently.
And I’m joining my tall friend, Annie to feature women’s maxi and midi dresses. So you can see that they work for all sizes if you get the proportion right.
I am 5’1″ so I either buy a petite size for the length or a midi dress and just wear it as a maxi dress with the hemline as is.
Maxi Dresses and Skirts Can Be Cool In Warm Weather
They can be cooler in warm weather, polished for an event, or packable for vacation. And nice if you want to cover your legs as many older women do. They are not just for special occasions!
Maxi on a Budget
This cotton-rayon wrap skirt with pockets is from Target ($25) and my tee-shirt is from Old Navy ($12 right now). Both are in size medium (size up). The wedge sandals and Quince polarized sunglasses are also good deals.
We live in Florida and there is nothing like a cool cotton skirt and white tee-shirt for classic comfort!
Flowy Cotton Skirts With Smocked Waists
Before trying on a smocked waisted skirt, I thought it could emphasize my belly, but somehow it sort of camouflages it and makes a nice silhouette. Also, on my frame I like to keep patterns small or stick with solids.

Boho Style Tiered Maxi Dress With Pockets
This is a popular style of dress: cotton-tiered v-neckline dress with short sleeves (I have it in blue too) from Anthropology. It’s flattering on lots of body types. It washes nicely in the machine on cold and I hang it to dry.
This is a Petite medium and it comes in regular and plus sizes too. Here are the well-made leather sandals. There are lots of colors. I like combining brown accessories with a black outfit.

Linen Maxi Dress
This is a new long dress from J. Jill. It has pockets and would be great for pear-shapes as it skims the hips. Wedge heels.
Soft Jersey Women’s Maxi Dresses (Great For Travel)
I took this dress to Portugal with me and it didn’t wrinkle. Here are similar ones in different colors/patterns.
This is a Petite size 6 and comes in regular sizes too. The flattering v-neck works with a bra cami from Amazon (size medium) and comfortable raffia slides from J. Crew. I have worn this with sneakers too. The necklace is from J. Jill similar.
Wrap dresses are great for a flattering look.
Here is a jersey wrap dress from Sezane in black. It goes to my ankles but could be a midi on a taller person. I like it with a denim jacket when it’s colder.
There are other colors like coral that would be fun. I’m wearing a medium and could probably wear a small but I just tie the belt tighter (same with the Target skirt in the first photo).

When my 2.5 year old grand-daughter, Louisa saw me in this Nico Blu dress she said “Grandma, you look beautiful!” I love her 🙂 The lightweight fabric is nice for summer.

I love maxi dresses! I’m also 5’1” tall but decided to order a blue tee shirt maxi with horizontal stripes in a Medium. I hope it fits as it is a final sale from J Crew. I’m a little heavier than you in the bust and much older at 80. I’m blonde turned silver and white so I think I could wear some of your dresses which are very tempting. I’m ten pounds heavier than when I married my husband in 1993. He says that I’m still slim and attractive but he is prejudiced! You look gorgeous in all of your choices.
You look great in every single one of these! I love that red from Anthro. Is the color accurate in your pic? It looks like a rusty red in the catalog.
It’s that shade in full sunlight and more of an apple red. Not too much rust.

I have to tell you — I ordered the navy blue linen dress from J Jill that you spotlighted a few weeks ago. I was in a quandary over the right size, but took the leap. I am in Canada so after placing my order I immediately started to worry about how hard it would be to return. When it arrived I was totally surprised and thrilled!
