Aloha! My Travel Favorites From Honolulu
Here are travel favorites from Honolulu. We spent a few days with eight friends in Honolulu before leaving for Maui for a wedding. The guys wanted to see the Pearl Harbor National memorial and museums. The museum had films that were enlightening. We visited the gravesite of the USS Arizona and it was a moving experience.
As it’s Five Fave time with Annie and Cindy here are some other travel highlights from Honolulu including a great small bag for travel and a movie that I think you will like.
Travel Favorites From Honolulu
1. Mai Tai’s Hawaiian Music On Your First Night In Waikiki
We stayed at the Halepuno Waikiki hotel…

It’s the sister hotel and across the street from the Halekulani hotel. Home of the House Without A Key. It’s a great spot to enjoy one of their famous Mai Tai’s, listen to live Hawaiian music with a view of the ocean.

2. Hiking To Top Of Diamond Head State Monument
This was a fun thing to do (was pretty tough for me towards the top but I made it and lots of people were doing it). Make reservations.

3. Belt Bag For Travel And Hiking/Walking
On the hike, I was admiring how Mercedes and Dorothy could carry their essentials in the medium sized Lululemon Everywhere Belt Bag. Lots of colors. Mercedes says it’s great for valuables when you travel. Anyway, when we got back down the hill, I bought one too!
It holds my small wallet, I-phone, two pairs of eyeglasses and a lipstick (with a little extra room). This will be nice when walking Chief at home, too.

4. Luau Entertainment
My brother, who lived on Oahu for several years, recommended the Polynesian Cultural Center for their luau (and so did others), but my friend who recently moved from Hawaii said that it would be a long bus ride in rush hour traffic to get there and that the Paina Luau at the Marriott Waikiki would be more convenient.

And it was. The Polynesian Show was entertaining and educational.
5. What To Watch: The Boys In The Boat On Prime Video
This was one of the movies that I watched on the long flight to Hawaii. I loved it. True story!
“During the height of the Great Depression, members of the rowing team at the University of Washington get thrust into the spotlight as they compete for gold at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.”

Mary Ann looks like a fun trip. I would love to stay at that resort someday. You look darling in your Hawaiian dress. Diamond Head hike is hard, especially with the humidity. Yay for you. Hope Maui is fun. I also have the Lulu bag- great for going through TSA with all your documents and stuff.
Mary Ann, it looks and sounds like a wonderful trip. I love Maui so many fun things to do there. I have not visited Honolulu but have made note of your suggestions.

Hi Mary Ann,
Congratulations for making it to the top of Diamond Head State Park. I’m sure it was exhilarating, the best part is getting into the car and going back to your best.

You looked adorable in your maxi dresses.

How fantastic you are in Hawaii!! I have lovely memories of our time there. We stayed at the Royal Hawaiian and it was blissful!! Happy weekend Mary Ann.
Thanks, Francesca!
Am loving living vicariously through you!! Can’t wait to hear more about your fabulous trip! Both the pinkish and the green maxis are adorable on you! Are sources available???
sorry, the pink one is from a boutique that I haven’t found online and and the green one was from the Pasadena flea market.
Always good to hear what other people like to do in Honolulu. Since I get there a couple of times a month because of my layovers, I’ve got to do a lot of those things. ( Especially drinking the Mai Tais!!) I just ordered one of the little Cross Body bags! I think it will be perfect for my layovers!
Seems like the shopping would be addictive in Honolulu, Martha!
