This past week, I wore this Spring/Summer travel outfit flying down to San Diego from San Francisco. I’ve been going back and forth a lot for family reasons. We had my brother-in-law’s funeral and my mom’s burial.
I need some light-hearted diversion today! Cindy, Annie, and I have our five faves. This is like our weekly catch-up phone call with you and each other!
1. Casual Spring/Summer Travel Outfit
Generally, it’s about 10 degrees warmer in San Diego so I usually remove a layer once I walk out of the airport! Also, with the horn and stone jewelry, there’s not enough metal on me to set off the security alarms!
This Clare V. bangle goes with everything (thanks, Laura) • I bought the horn cuff and necklace from an African vendor outside on Market Street but similar on Etsy here and here • face mask • long lightweight cardigan • basic but thicker Gap T-shirt • comfortable skinny jeans • cool, lightweight sandals • classic red polish • similar Tory Burch satchel

2. Trader Joe’s Healthy Shots
Have you tried these? I love them. I’m not really sure of the health benefits although I think the ginger one can ease an upset stomach and the turmeric is supposed to be anti-inflammatory. Only 10 calories. Howard gets them for me and I notice that my sister had them in her fridge, too.
3. Sephora Spring Savings Sale
Now is the time to get your beauty favorites at a discount. All Beauty Insiders can use the code OMGSPRINGÂ to access their respective promo, which can be used an unlimited number of times.
- Now through April 19: Rouge members must spend $1,000 per year at Sephora to earn 20 percent off during the sale.
- April 13 to April 19:Â VIBÂ members must spend $350 per year at Sephora to earn 15 percent off.
- April 15 to April 19: Insider members have no minimum purchase requirement to earn 10 percent off.
Here are my favorites so it’s nice to get them with the discount (I’m at the VIB level — so on Tuesday, April 13 I will be shopping).
Great eyebrow pencil • pretty peachy pink lipstick Color: 15 Not Your Baby – brownish pink • good blush and lip tint • lovely scented Chance • Body Polish (really good right now to exfoliate/soften arms since they will be exposed more with the warmer weather) • love this skin-plumping cream that my cousin gave me!

4. Good Audio Book
Greenlights by Mathew McConaughey
I listened to his book (read by him) on audio from the library. He is funny, poetical, and a good storyteller. I think my husband and son would like it, too.
“#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Over one million copies sold! From the Academy Award®–winning actor, an unconventional memoir filled with raucous stories, outlaw wisdom, and lessons learned the hard way about living with greater satisfaction.”
5. Painting the Inside of Your Exterior Doors Something Other Than White?

And comfortable, Barb!

Your family’s going through a challenging time. There are better days ahead. I love your travel ensemble. So pulled together and chic. Wish I could travel with half your flair. Jim loves those turmeric shots. And, I love painted front doors. You’re probably who encouraged me to do that with ours … and it looks amazing. xo
Mary Ann Pickett says
Thanks so much, Juliet!
Debbie says
I painted the interior of my French doors to my screened porch black a few years ago, and have loved them. Of course, there was the getting used to them being that color – we kept thinking they were wide open!
I’m so sorry for the losses in your family. No matter their age, we’re never prepared to let our mothers go…
Mary Ann Pickett says
Thank you so much, Debbie!!

Hi Mary Ann,
I am eager to download the Matthew McConaughey. I love his accent. It will make it fun to listen to.
The TJ shots look interesting. As always I enjoy the Sunday Faves posts.

I married Howard for his southern accent. Just kidding. Sort of 🙂

Aging and isolation have taken a toll. Your website is an encouragement for self care and then reaching out to friends. Thank you.
Mary Ann Pickett says
What a great comment, Ruth. Sending a virtual hug.
Deb says
I painted the inside of my door Hale Navy a couple months ago and love it too!
Mary Ann Pickett says
Excellent, Deb!!!
Linda R Salazar says
Goodness when it rains it pours. Sorry to hear about your brother-in-law. I haven’t seen the Trader Joe’s shots but I’m always in and out of there pretty quickly. I do take a tumeric supplement every day that has black pepper in it. I hear it’s good for anti inflammatory/anti aging. My doc says we don’t need all these supplements because you can get it though food but I disagree…one can only eat so much curry!
Mary Ann Pickett says
Thanks, Linda. I think the Trader Joe’s shots are less expensive than other places.
Annie Diamond says
Mary Ann! Love your style for travel or anywhere! I have heard great things about that book. I think Brent and I will listen to it on our next road trip!
Mary Ann Pickett says
Thanks a good idea, Annie!
Maureen Morton says
So very sorry for the recent losses in your family. It’s never easy! But thank you for sharing your style tips. It does make expected and unexpected trip clothing choices a bit smoother!
Mary Ann Pickett says
Thanks, Maureen!!!
Jayne Wagner says
Hi Mary Ann! Bought the jeans and sweater duster online and the checkout crashed. We are going on our rebooked trip to Paris in November (fingers crossed), and was inspired to wear the same on the flight! Hopefully you’ll get credit for the link.
All the best to you, the Cunninghams and Picketts.
Mary Ann Pickett says
Oh you will look so cute, Jayne. Don’t forget a coat!!
Nancy says
Your brother in law passed away also? So sorry to hear that. Not your sisters husband in San Diego? My condolences. Such sadness for you all at once!
Mary Ann Pickett says
My older sister’s husband. She lives in Oregon. Thank you, Nancy.
