Here are are the colorful dresses my friends and I wore to a tropical wedding on Maui in Hawaii last weekend. It was a magical reception and weekend and I will have more to share for my Five Faves this Sunday, but let’s get to the fashion show.
The dress code on the invitation was “island formal.” And since part of the ceremony was on grass, flats or sandals with chunky heels were recommended.
“Putt-putt” Welcome Party: Bright Maxi Dress Outfits
This was a great idea for an ice breaker and to meet each other. Alison (the bride’s sister and I wore bright maxi dresses although mine would be more of a midi dress on a taller person. We wore sunglasses with our sundresses. I had on wedges but took them off to play barefooted.

Cocktail Wedding Guest Dresses In Floral Prints
My friend, Joy wore a flowy jumpsuit by Ted Baker (sold out). I am wearing a turquoise shift with pockets from Tuckernuck (size small). It’s on final clearance so I’d grab it while you can!

I’ve been keeping an exciting secret. Our daughter, Alexandra is expecting a baby boy in early October! Here she is with a little “bump” in a vintage caftan with our friend Ariana in a Watercolored Maxi gown.

Notice the view of the ocean from the venue.
Wedding Guest Footwear: Nude Sandals

My comfortable sandals are by Nisolo. Mercedes clear strap sandals (which she says are also comfortable) are available on Zappos. Nude sandals can make your legs look longer.
And here are my buddies together in breathable fabrics for semi-formal beach wedding attire. Mercedes is wearing a dress by J. Crew Collection. Her’s is sold out but they have other beautiful dresses.

That’s it for our beach wedding guest dresses! See you on Sunday for more about the wedding and where we stayed on Maui!!

Mary Ann I am so excited for you all! Alexandra looked super cute in her vintage caftan. I also love you in both your dresses! What a fun wedding. Hope you are having a great time. So much to look forward to! xo
Thank you, Kim!!
Love the dresses and the putt-putt idea. Congrats to Alexandra on the coming baby!
The putt-putt was really fun. I won a prize for a hole-in-one!
Beautiful. Any chance you would know who Alexandra’s sandals are by please?
You all look so lovely. I love your daughter’s vintage caftan. Now I know what island formal is. Congrats on another grandchild!
Thanks, Laurie!!
It looks like a wonderful time In Maui. It is my favorite island!
Congratulations are in order for your daughter! How exciting!!!
Thanks so much, Paula!
Fun post, Mary Ann — fashion and arm chair travel are a great combo!
How wonderful to be expecting a grandson!
How exciting that your family is expanding! You all look so pretty and fresh in your island formal dresses. And the wedding venue is lovely. I have such mixed emotions about those clear sandals. I know they are great for elongating your legs, but I think they lack a certain polish. Absolutely no offense to your beautiful friend wearing them. This is simply my own puzzlement about the love these shoes receive by some, including certain influencers. Do they give anyone else pause? I’m currently in the market to expand my nude shoe game – at all heel heights – and looking at all options.
