Steps For A Fresher Dining Room! Before and After

Hello, my friend! Last week I showed you how we gave Laura’s living room a makeover and today we have the four steps for a fresher dining room. We are working with an open floor plan where the dining room leads out to the deck with lovely views. This room is open to the kitchen and living rooms.

At the moment, I am taking a little breather to be with old friends along the coast north of Los Angeles. It’s a beautiful spot overlooking the Pacific Ocean…a nice little girls’ trip.

Creating A Fresher Dining Room

Dated Dining Room

1. Paint A Fresh White and Remove Heavy Drapes

This gives the room an indoor/outdoor feel.

2. Install A Chandelier Where There Wasn’t One

With the high ceiling, this Restoration Hardware iron and brass chandelier defines the space as the dining room and not just a walkthrough to the back.

3. Add Modern Host Chairs

Instead of starting over, we incorporated two custom Lee Industries host chairs (similar) in a performance stain-resistant fabric. The nice thing is that these can be pulled into the living room for more seating for a party like a book club.

Laura collected the vintage bottles on the table from flea markets. The pretty leafy faux tree and favorite basket are from Pottery Barn.

Love the fresh paint color. I have been sampling different white paint colors for my bedroom and would like to know what color you used. Have you ever done or would you consider doing a “favorite white paint colors” segment?
    Thank you,
    Carol

    Mary Ann,
Your transformation is so uplifting…how wonderful that the homeowners will enjoy Spring and Summer in this
space that looks so light, fresh and updated. Removing the ‘heavy’ really added to a beautiful new look!

I love what you’ve done here! That light fixture and removing the drapes really added so much appeal to the room. Sometimes simple is best!
