Today I’m showing you perfect shirt dresses you can wear anywhere. And we have our veteran group of fashionable bloggers reporting on Spring/Summer over 50 Fashion. Their links are at the end of the post.
Our moving truck is arriving this morning from San Francisco with all my clothes and accessories. It’s taken longer than expected. Luckily I packed two basic shirt dresses that I’ve been wearing a lot here in Atlantic Beach, Florida!

Waisted Shirt Dress With Pockets
This Anthropologie dress is great to wear to lunch here or when we are in Europe next month. The cutout is not too revealing and makes it cooler in warm temperatures.

The straw hat is new from Target. The Madewell sandals (sold out) are comfortable with block heels. These are similar.
Linen Shirt Dress For Versatility
This J. Jill linen shirt dress can be worn with or without leggings. I wore it shopping, out to dinner and even as a coverup out on Mark and Mercedes’ boat.
Linen is going to be my friend here in Florida…so yes, this is one of those shirt dresses you can wear anywhere. And I get compliments on those Anthro reading glasses.

I can’t believe that the dress almost sold out already. It may be in your store. Here is a similar one.

Neutral Leather Crossbody Bag
Recently, Howard brought this leather Longhamp crossbody bag back for me from a Paris business trip. I have to use my smaller wallet, but I love it.

If you want more linen for Florida, I recommend you check out Etsy sellers. I’ve purchased from a couple different ones, based in Lithuania, and am completely satisfied with the quality. (Check the reviews before ordering.) Not only is the quality for the price fantastic but they will make alterations to the sizing to fit you (especially good for those shorter or taller than average) as the clothing is made to order. Downside is that it can take a while to receive your order.
I love this idea, Cathy!!! Thanks!
Hi Mary Ann,
It must be a lot of work, but fun too, to finally be unpacking and moving things into your new home. How exciting to be starting up in an entirely new environment.
I loved that white dress on you when we met for lunch, the back cut out takes it a notch above! I like an easy shirt dress, slip it on and go! My kind of dressing. It’s been really rainy here (thank goodness, finally) but I’m looking forward to pulling on a couple of mine when the weather gets warmer And maybe adding to my wardrobe with one or two of the ones you’ve featured here!
Xo Heidi
Thanks, Heidi. I’m exhausted and only about 10% of the boxes are unpacked!
How exciting … your moving van finally arrives!!! Now the real fun begins. I love shirt dresses … they’re great for summer and can be dressed up or down. Your Anthro dress is so cute with the peek-a-boo back. So glad you’re being reunited with your things! xo
Thanks, Juliet!!
I love linen! So am excited to see your wardrobe transformation! And a shirt dress is so truely versatile!
Thanks, Sarah, I have some warm weather things from going to southern California so often but Florida will be even warmer.
I always need to iron J. Jill linen.
That isn’t for me!
Do you iron all your linen in Florida?
If not what is your secret?
I just wear it wrinkled…and I still get compliments. I learned that from Cindy Hattersley. I did just buy a steamer and it works so well.
That white dress is darling on you! And isn’t it hilarious that we both styled The J jill dress almost identically! Great minds think alike!
It’s your influence on me, Cindy!
Hi Mary Ann,
I love the idea of a shirt dress for summer. You have given me some great leads.
I hope your move goes smoothly. I’m so happy for you and Howard. Can’t wait to hear more about your new neck of the woods.
Karen B.
Thanks so much, Karen. I will report back!
Mary Ann, So happy to hear your clothes arrived! You look darling in that rust shirt dress. You will wear it all over. I love the hat too. It’s going to be a whole different world of dressing there right? I mean steamy versus our cooler and foggy days. Linen seems like a smart idea. I do think shirt dresses are so versatile and I have a few. My last was the Frank & Eileen denim one which I really love and needs zero ironing and good for travel, etc. You may like it for Florida. Loved all your shopping choices here too.
Thanks for asking me to join you all. xoxo Kim
Thanks, Kim…I will take a break from unpacking and head over to your blog.
Mary Ann, you look so relaxed and pretty in your white dress. With all that is going on in your life too. It’s wonderful that you have the gift of organizational abilities, being an interior designer that probably is a prerequisite in your line of work. Thinking of you today and hopefully everything will fall into place the way you hoped. With all you have faced in the past MANY months you need a tee shirt that says, “I Survived the Move.” Give yourself a huge hug and a big pat on the back.
Thanks, Katherine! My muscles are already sore.
You look beautiful! I love shirt dresses, they are so classic. If you are living in linen go to Marshalls and TJMaxx, they have a plethora of linen dresses, shirts and pants. Don’t overwork yourself with the move. Take care
I will! We have a lot of Marshalls and TJ Maxx’s here!
I love the white Antropologie dress! You wear it so well! Wishing you the best in your new home in Florida.
Thanks so much, Carolyn.
Mary Ann! What a darling dress! And with the hat, it looks like you’ve acclimated quite well into your new surroundings! I guess that comes from living all over the world and lots of travel! You look amazing! Good luck with the move today! Moving is exhilarating, but a lot of work! Can’t wait to see all your things in your new home!
