We thought it would be fun to answer the questions here that Kelly did not ask such as:

What Does The Collected Look Mean to You?

Everyone should have their own personal collected look. You don’t want your home to look generic like a page from a catalog. Mix it up.

Here I have mixed a Target cube ottoman with a custom chair and pillow, an antique bobbin corner chair from a Paris flea market, and a vintage Turkish rug. Mixing high and low end is a good way to achieve a collected look.

Describe How Listeners Can Achieve This Style/Look.

What makes you happy? Brings out your smile?  It can be associated with your family heritage, hobbies, travels. It’s a layered, assembled look that is unique to you.

I like to collect vintage soda, medicine, milk, etc. bottles from flea markets and antique stores. Normally they are on display in my bookcase (Tip: display collections together for impact) but I recently used them as a centerpiece. You can see below that I also like paintings from my travels, friends, and from Etsy and eBay.

Advice You Would Give To Someone Struggling to Develop Their Signature Style?

First of all, don’t consider it a struggle. It’s just decorating. Finding out what you like can be fun. What fashion styles do you gravitate towards…that can help define your signature look. What places make you happy, the beach, the mountains, the prairie, the city, the desert, the spa?

I like coastal things and bought these antique shell prints when we were living in Fort Lauderdale.

I have a few of the books you listed…interesting how the decorating styles are all different but I love them all. I just happened to find Athena’s blog Eyeswoon this week. She was featured in the most recent issue of Domino magazine that I picked up to read on vacation. Anxious to try some of her recipes!
