Yay Sunday! That means it’s time to share fun things like New Target Faves, what to watch on television, and healthy snacks. Be sure to check out what Annie and Cindy are loving, too!
1. New Target Faves
So I don’t get out much with our lockdown situation. That’s why my recent trip to Target was exhilarating! The new Studio McGee line is out today but my local Target already had some things that I want to show you.
The faux plants are fairly real looking…and are great for hard to water places (or second homes). I’m thinking I should buy the maidenhair fern (top right) since they are impossible to keep alive. And aren’t the baskets cute? Head over to Target’s new Studio McGee line today. Things will sell out.
New From Studio McGee For Target
Here are some of my favorites…
I picked up this cute little ceramic vase for $15. It’s a good size for one bunch of flowers.
2. What to Watch On TV
Dream House Makeover
Speaking of Studio Mcgee, the second season is out. It’s so fun to see the personal side of their family and Shea’s thought process.
I like spotting some of their items for Target in the show like the striped square ottoman that I have (bottom left). It’s sold out online but it’s in a check, too. Or you can get it in the double version. Very cute.
El Cid
“The story of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, a Castilian nobleman and war hero in medieval Spain.” It’s on Amazon Prime with dubbed voices. It seems we are getting a lot of foreign shows now…probably due to U.S. production restraints with Covid. We are still hoping to go to Spain in June and thought this would be fun to watch. Some of the battle scenes are gruesome–that’s when I left to go wash the dinner dishes. Overall, we liked it.
The Life Ahead
This is in Italian with subtitles. Sophia Loren is great in it. “A Holocaust survivor running a daycare business forms an unlikely friendship with a bitter street kid when she takes him in after he robs her.” It’s a sweet emotional film.
3. Healthy Eating
Howard has lost more than twice as much weight as I have in two weeks. I’m trying not to get hung up on numbers. (But yes, I am annoyed). The main thing is keeping it off…and I still have a long ways to go. How are you doing if you are doing Weight Watchers with us?
These Cara Cara Navel Oranges are delicious for a zero point snack. Really sweet…see the pinkish-orange interior? I put slices in my water, too.
I also really like the Light String Cheese Sticks from Trader Joe’s (two points). And I just made this Spicy Gazpacho Soup again…works nicely when you want something in the afternoon before dinner.
4. Survey Results And A Winner!
Thanks so much to everyone who filled out the questionnaire! Mostly, everyone wants
- Decor Tips and Before and After’s (tied)
- My Home Decor
- Fashion Over 50 and Target Finds (tied)
But mainly I got some GREAT ideas from your comments which I will be sure to implement. I’m going to read through them again and take notes. Thank you again!
I used a random number generator and #252 out of the 344 who responded won. I’ve already contacted her via email. It will be fun to show a before and after of what one hour can accomplish with her (if she lets me).
5. Ambient Candlelight For You Or As A Gift For A Friend
Do you know how much I love these easy unscented votive candles from Pottery Barn? Probably, since I use them all the time! They come in a large pack and last a long time. When the candle is burned down, I put the glass in the freezer to remove any remaining wax by chipping it out. Then I can use them again with inexpensive tea light candles.
I brought some to our son, Tommy’s house when we were there.
That antique lithograph of French and English ships battling is real. Twenty years ago, when I was shopping for art with Tommy in Paris (he was 8 years old), I told him he could pick out a picture if he was good. I said I would give it to him when he was 25 years old. He never forgot that. So, now he has it in his dining room 🙂
Those are my New Target Faves, what to watch on television, healthy snacks, and more!
Now let’s go see what my buddies are loving! Incidentally, several of you said you like our Sunday Faves!
Thank you for sharing this. I really loved it. Keep posting!
HOWARD IS FIVE TIMES YOUR SIZE SO ITS OKAY!
GO SLOW IS THE WAY TO HAVE IT STAY OFF………..
CARA CARA means DEAR DEAR!
LOVE THAT YOU PROMISED HIM THE PRINT!

Hi Mary Ann,
I know I’ll find something fun from the new items from McGee Design. Their first release was great too. The story about the battleship piece is wonderful and those memories are so dear. I love that Tommy has it hanging in his apartment.
xo,
Karen
Love the tablecloth in Tommy’s dining room. Is it available any where in the US?
It was a gift and I let him borrow it for the holidays 🙂
I have the same tablecloth purchased last year. Makes me feel good that I have something in my home!
I love it too. It was a gift and Tommy is borrowing it.
I LOVE that marble tray. Our Target had diddly squat when it comes to Studio McGee!! I will have to go back. That little vase is just perfect and the price! I love your TV suggestions. I need to put them on my phone so I don’t forget!
I love the history of the battleships lithograph! So sweet! Thanks for sharing it.
Thanks, Pat.
I love tulips! (I’m half Dutch) The painting is so pretty, you purchased it unframed correct? Did you have it professionally framed?
I ordered the same marble tray from Target a couple months ago…the person that packed it did a horrible job. Wrapped in paper with nothing else but a couple air pillows. Needless to say it arrived broken. :o( I ordered a similar one from Crate and Barrel that was packed well and arrived in one piece.
I think I must have missed your questionnaire!
Linda
I’m glad you got a marble tray intact, Linda!
I have the same tablecloth with embroidered olives that I purchased in a souvenir shop in Crete. Makes me feel good that I have something in my home that Mary Ann Pickett has in hers!
Oops – I guess that’s Tommy’s dining room but still . . . 😀
Sorry Mary Ann! Thinking about reading Cindy’s blog after your blog. Love Sundays 🙂
Hi Cindy,
Thank you for the advice about freezing candles I did not know that and I love those PB lights. I love watching Last Tango In Halifax on Netflix:) All the actors are amazing and Nicola Walker also is fantastic in a series called Th Split on Sundance. Have a lovely week!
We just finished the new season of Last Tango.
Hi Mary Ann! I did respond to your survey but after reading today’s post I realize I enjoy little tidbits of when you lived in Paris. What great taste Tommy had as a little boy. I’d love to hear more stories of your life in Paris. My dream is to live in Italy just for 6 months! I don’t think I will get my husband to leave our grandson for that long though. He travelled all over the world in his career!
I love the 5 favorites on Sundays!
Tricia, I did see your response. I guess I could post about living in Paris and all the adjustments (like you need a Euro to get a shopping cart and you have to bad your own groceries…always). You should definitely move to Italy for 6 months if you are retired. Howard and I want to do that, too.
Thanks for responding!
I love your story of the lithograph and Tommy! I just gave my son and daughter-in-law the crystal candlesticks
for their 15th anniversary that we received from a special aunt and uncle for our 15th anniversary. And while we are talking candles, I also love those unscented glass votives from PB. They’re so unobtrusive you can use them anywhere for added glow or drop them into a silver baby cup, etc., for special glow!
Have a great week!
What a great family heirloom to give them, Janet. So thoughtful.
I love the story about the lithograph your (well behaved) son picked out in Paris. He’ll share that story with his own children someday.
I also wanted to comment on the movie, The Life Ahead. Sophia Loren’s performance is effortless and I cried the ugly cry for this beautiful story. She is such a great actress and her son directed the film. In this era where hate gets all the press, this sweet story is a must see.
I loved it, too, Audrey. The mix of religions and how the little boys get along. I didn’t know her son directed it. Thanks for commenting.
What a fun post! Do you recall where you got your match holder?
Kristen, It’s marble. I got it at a store called Hudson Grace in SF but there are others.
Mary Ann,
I love your tulips and the new art on your mantel. That must make you happy every time you see it!
Patrick heads back to school tomorrow and then we are starting weight watchers! I am so ready!!
Tommy’s dining space is beautiful! Your chairs from Newport?
XO
You don’t need Weight Watchers, Annie, but the more the merrier! I’m sure you will have great tips.
