Little Easy Home Décor Details To Make You Smile

Day-to-day, there are some easy home decor details that can make you smile, including breeze-proof taper candles, a cool but inexpensive vase, a charming berry bowl with more uses than just for berries, gorgeous file folders that make a nice gift, and more.

It’s time for Five Faves with Cindy and Annie! I am glad you are here.

It’s nice to be home. If you drop in often, you know that recently I was in Key West on vacation, Atlanta for a Content Creators Convention, and last weekend in Los Angeles for our daughter’s baby shower.

Here are some easy home décor details that are making me happy to be home!

1. Hurricane Taper Candles

Last week, after we had a lovely “Dinner Party With Peaches and Apricots” I found that the breeze from the air conditioner caused the taper candle wax to melt all over the dining table 🙁

So when I saw these great hurricane taper candles in Pottery Barn, I snapped them up! The base has sort of an organic beachy feel. This is a small size. They come in three sizes and in black, too.

The hand-made looking vase/pot is from Threshold for Target on clearance. You may be able to find in it your store.

2. Darling Hand-made Berry Bowl

Using a berry bowl is a nice way to serve freshly washed grapes and berries. Or to give as a gift with fruit from your garden (we have lots of limes and lemons coming in).

I bought this hand-made bowl from Annie’s Shop Most Lovely Things. She is getting more in if you don’t see them in the store and they come nicely packaged.

3. William Morris Office Folders

Do you love pretty folders as much as I do? It makes storing bills and other things more pleasant.

So it brightened my day when my cousin, Billy, and his able office assistant, Laura sent these to me (similar here).

4. Peperoncini Chicken One Skillet Dinner

Our son, Tommy made this for dinner the other night from Bon Appetit. It was delicious and good for leftovers too.

Tommy is staying with us for a couple more weeks until his house is ready in Orlando. We will help him get settled there.

5. Easy Kitchen Shelf Styling — Display The Things That Make You Smile

And speaking of getting settled, I helped style our daughter and son-in-law’s shelves last week with things they already had.

Adding cookbooks, plants, and art spices things up along with their beautiful Murano glasses that were wedding presents.

I scrubbed up the copper bowl and pans with Bar Keeper’s Friend (wear gloves, my hands are dry and peeling now) and hung them on the wall with Command Strips (no tools needed).

These things like the blue and white plates are nice to display since Luca inherited them from his family.

If you are new here, each Sunday I share my top five favorite things along with my friends, Cindy and Annie. It’s like our weekly “catch-up” phone call. If you would like to receive this series every week, please sign up HERE.

  1. Mary Ann, What a fun post. I am late to this, but really enjoyed it. Alie’s place is adorable. Her glasses look lovely on the shelves with her art and plants. Love their dishes too. Your hurricanes look great on the table.. I am going to order some too!
Oh and Tommy’s dish is on my list! Looks delicious .

  2. Mary Ann,
The one pan dinner looks delicious. I’ll be trying that soon. Your daughter’s shelves look great. I love your styling. I love the rustic flower container. It pairs perfectly with the PB hurricane candle holders.
    Have a great week.

  3. Hi Mary Ann,
Those glasses on the restyled shelves are beautiful and add so much color and sparkle to your daughter’s kitchen. Love the copper cookware, too.
I like the idea of those taper hurricanes, I’m going to check them out! I have a chandelier with candles above our dining table and remember one of the first times we used it, discovering that wax had dripped down onto the area where one of our guests was sitting. He never said a word but I was mortified! I used expensive candles but they dripped and burned so quickly. Now I buy big boxes of tapers at IKEA and they are wonderful! Slow burning and no dripping!
I like your new vase! If I get one more vase I think the cabinet they are stored in will fall off the wall!!
Hope you have a good week!
    Xo Heidi

  4. I love these posts! Such fun details! Do you happen to know when your daughter found her colorful glass drinking glasses?

  5. It’s fun to travel, but always good to be home! Love those hurricanes for tapers. I’m going to order them for outside … keeping candles lit with a gentle breeze is a challenge. I love my berry bowl too. Annie has great things in her shop and this one is going to need restocking frequently. Like many people I have a love for and possibly addition to office supplies. I need these file folders. Excited for Tommy that he has a new home in Orlando … not sure how far that will be for you but hope it’s close so you can enjoy his cooking often. I’m admiring you daughters shiney pots and son-in-laws family heirloom dishes. Their place looks adorable. Wishing you a great week in your beautiful new home equipped with person chef(s)!!! xo

  6. Mary Ann I love Allie and Luca’s shelves! Love the bright-colored glassware. You need those in Florida! That vase from Target is amazing. It totally looks handmade. I wonder if I can track one down. It looks like a great size as well.
