A couple of times a year, I make my own organic sugar scrub to use in the bath. The sugar is a good exfoliant and the coconut oil softens your skin. I like to use it, especially on my feet and arms. This year I decided to make some extra for friends as party favors.
Homemade Organic Sugar Scrub Recipe
- two 24 ounce bags of Organic Brown Sugar (I use Trader Joe’s)
- one jar 16-ounce Organic Coconut Oil (slightly melted in microwave (about 30 to 45 seconds with the top off)
- about 20 drops lavender essential oil like doTerra from Amazon if desired
Thoroughly mix in a food processor and pour into a large bowl to make it easier to scoop into individual party favor jars. I used 4-ounce mason jars from Amazon. The more firmly you pack it in, the more you sort of have to scrape it out when you use it (I’d rather have it that way to get more in the jar).
Makes about 10 to 12 jars.
I bought labels from Evermine.
I tied a little twine around the jars…and that’s it!
I’m in San Diego and it’s my sister’s birthday so we are taking her to lunch (with the Sugar Scrub Party Favors)! Happy birthday, Teresa!
Hope your week is off to a good start!
What a great, fun post! I went down the rabbit hole today and found Sandra Salin, thanks to you, and so many other fun things on your links! I don’t often have time to do that, but today I did!
Thanks for your informative, chock full of information posts! Love getting them in my in box!
What a fun idea. Wondering if instructions for use should be included and what they would look like?
Well, you could use it on your lips like my friends Cindy and Elizabeth do…but I use it on my arms and legs and neck.
I just love homemade party favors and I’m always looking for new ideas. Love this!
What a brilliant idea. I love the idea of Sugar scrubs. I couldn’t agree with you more about eyebrows. My goodness I am NOTHING until I put on eyebrows. I say, eyebrows and lipstick and you’re done in a pinch. Love your beautiful packaging. I think I’ll do it for my book club just because it’s such a beautiful idea. Always love your blogs and your vision! Your recipes also. Thanks for letting me join you and Cindy.Great fun.
I don’t have a food processor. Do you think I. Could get same results with a large kitchen aid mixer? I would love to make these for my guests on Mother’s Day!
I’m not sure…it seems like it would be fine though. Perhaps you could test it with a smaller amount?
This is a brilliant idea, and your labels make it look so classy. Much better than microbeads!
Thanks! I got the labels that have a thin plastic coating to resist moisture, too.
Thanks for the scrub recipe. My niece gave me some scrub a few years back and I loved using it on my face. I wondered about using it in the shower but worried that it would make the tub slippery with the coconut oil. Have you had any trouble with that or clogging up the drain? Mary Ann would love a link, if available, of your blue and white pinstripe top in your Easter picture. Enjoy your visit with your sister.
It doesn’t clog the drain as a lot of the oil stays on your skin but I would be careful with it in the shower as it can get slippery! I got that top two years ago at Nordstrom. It’s probably not there anymore…thank you!!!
How fun. I’m going to make these for a bridal shower that we are giving!
