This is that time of year when we are wishing for signs of Spring. Online and in the stores, I’ve seen some pretty clothes and accessories that can mix with items that I already own (and that are now on sale) for fashion that transitions into Spring. And of course, everything is classic, yet casual…and mix and matchable!
But first, did you catch every bloggers’ great coffee table styling advice last week? Did you try any of the suggestions for a new look? I did. It’s fun.
Even though I only do these fashion posts (with affiliate links) a few times a year, they take a surprising amount of time! But they also help me take inventory of what I have and what I would like to have to freshen up my wardrobe. Plus…so much is on sale (I know I already said that but I like a deal).
Work to Weekend Attire
- Oh man, I want this silk blend scarf! I saw it in the store. It’s on sale. 2. This is a forgiving top that updates things. Love stripes. 3. This Moto Leather Jacket is so versatile. I’ve had mine for five years and it just gets better. Pricey yes…but if you did a cost per wear analysis…a deal. There’s been a code for 30% off so I hope it’s still there. 4. I am really loving Banana Republic’s Mid-rise Skinny Ankle Jeans for their pricing and fit. 5. I bought these low cut booties last Fall and I love them. I wear them with jeans and dresses. The low cut makes them great for Spring.
With Cindy Hattersley. in Carmel, California (I’m in my leather jacket). Cindy is so cute!
I don’t buy a lot of clothes so they need to work in different ways. My clients don’t really expect me to dress up (especially when styling shelves and adjusting furniture placement :). So, I can be sort of “polished casual” most of the time.
Work to Date Night Attire
- Another way to wear the Moto Leather Jacket. 2. I bought a lightweight cashmere scarf like this in India…when it’s warmer it can be worn as a wrap without the jacket. 3. I’m a little afraid that this Maxi dress will sell out before I buy it. It also comes in petite (a bonus for a shortie like me). That’s sometimes a problem with Anthropologie (especially in special sizes that they sell out). I could pack it for our trip to Greece this summer and wear it with sandals. Guess I should quit waiting for a sale? 4. A chic little Quilted Bag that’s also big enough to hold my glasses. 5. Since I know I love these in the caramel color…these Off White Booties are on trend.
Weekend Brunch With Friends Attire
- I have this White Denim Jacket. Great through cooler summer evenings. I pair it with dresses, too. On sale! 2. Saw this mock necked striped Tshirt in the store and it’s so cute! 3. I tried the Coastal Tshirt on and was so close to buying it but I couldn’t decide if living in California it would make me look like a tourist. Nice fit and color though. I think I still want it 🙂 4. High Rise Skinny Crop (flattering and comes in specialty sizes) 5. LOVE my Vans Slipons and the price is right, too. 5. This Zip Top Transport bag would be good for work and travel.
Industry Day Time Event or Church Attire
I wore this to our Coyuchi event. I am most comfortable in clothes that don’t call out lots of attention but are a little fun like with the leopard bag. 1. I have this lightweight cotton cardigan in a few colors. Great for layering. 2. My favorite tailored White Blouse. 3. This calfskin purse is still going strong. I’ve been using it almost every day since last October. It can be a cross body and holds more than you would think. YOU can get it on sale now! 4. The Gucci Belt was a gift but I think any black belt with a buckle is fine. 5. My Elie Tahari black skirt is at least five years old but this similar black skirt works. 6. Patent Leather Pumps for when you want a bit of a heel.
Comfortable But Pretty Attire
- I bought this Pink sweater blazer for my sister (I have it in the camel color below)…it’s such a pretty shade. I want it. 2. I also have this Striped Tee shirt and I like that it feels a bit thicker and hides the flab (on sale). 3. Banana Republic jeans again. Half price…in petite, tall and regular. 4. This Cross Body Saddle Bag is so cute and would go with everything (on sale). 5. I usually buy one pretty feminine top a year and I think this is it. 6. I have these Leather Cole Haan Tennis Shoes and now they are on sale! I should probably get another pair. I wear them with pants and casual dresses, too.
It’s raining so much here…I could use a cute umbrella…have any suggestions? Have a great rest of the week! And thanks for visiting.

What cute ensembles. I am thinking about job interview clothes. My last job interview was in 1993! How to look competent/serious yet not old while also being kind of artsy/intellectual/creative type? A strict suit wouldn’t work, nor would anything too bohemian. That carefully calibrated mix is tricky.
Mary Ann says
Good luck with that! The French are so classic.

Hi Mary Ann, I just purchased a cute umbrella at Banana Republic…it is black with stripes inside and a rattan handle. (UPS delivered it in a ginormous box) It seems pretty sturdy…I will have to give it a test run this weekend. Lots of rain in the forecast here in San Diego.

We have a huge BR downtown (I think it’s their flagship)…I just might have to take the bus over there tomorrow 🙂
Linda Salazar says
I’ve been to that BR!! It is big…hope you find one. 🙂

Mary Ann,
I love your fashion style. I mimicked your outfit with the black Van’s and even purchased the Ann Taylor Perfect Shirt. Like you, I don’t buy a ton of clothes but prefer to be able mix separates to serve a variety of occasions.
I appreciate the work involved in putting these posts together. 🙂
xo,
Karen

Thanks, Karen. They take time…I don’t do them very often but they are helpful to me. My sister’s birthday is coming up and she likes my style so I have some gift ideas now, too.

Hi Mary Ann, as usual I love your taste in clothes. I bought those black Vans and last week I took them on a trip to Palmetto Bluff with my DC dwelling son and he thought I was such a cool mom! I thought it was great that he noticed, made me feel good. Now I too want that scarf. BTW, you and Cindy look sooooo cute in your black jackets too.
Mary Ann says
Thanks, Celia!! Aren’t those shoes comfortable, too?

Great suggestions! I love a good cross body bag, and of course you cannot go wrong with a white blouse and black skirt. The classics are a great base for every wardrobe.
Mary Ann says
I know…I have two short-sleeved white blouses and two long sleeved ones that I rotate all the time.

My favorite umbrella – the inverted double layer umbrella by Spar. It’s on Amazon for less than $20. So convenient for when you’re walking around running errands in the rain – you don’t get wet legs when you stop in a store and it can stand on it’s own. Thanks for all the great outfit suggestions. Love your style!
Mary Ann says
Great suggestion, Susan!!! My husband just got an inverted umbrella. I was thinking that it was so that the wind didn’t blow it backward…but of course, the water would drain away from you.
Have a great weekend!

Yes…you are in the thick of it. I remember from when we lived in Winnetka. But Spring WILL be here before long 🙂
