Hello! We spend a lot of time sleeping and recharging in our bedrooms, don’t we? That’s why it’s important to have a serene master bedroom. Here’s what I did to make ours a relaxing retreat in busy San Francisco.
We purchased this black four poster bed several years ago from WS Home. The mattress is new and has a memory foam topper. My friend, Liana created the bed curtains for us when we first moved to San Francisco to make it a little “urban oasis.”
Good Reading Light
The crystal lamps are from Restoration Hardware with custom lamp shades from Cruel Mountain Designs.
A Plant or Fresh Flowers
That fern was $9.99 at the grocery store and is going strong.
Stool to Put On Your Shoes
The x bench from Wisteria is also Chief’s “leg up” to get on the bed. Is your dog allowed on your bed?
Soft Bed Linens
My husband, Howard mentioned how much he loves our new linen sheets.
We SCORED! Coyuchi gave me the organic linen chambray sheet set with an extra set of pillowcases. These were in exchange for hosting the fun pop-up event that you all were invited to last month with Cindy Hattersley and Kim Wheeler of Northern California Style.
These sheets come out of the cotton bag smelling fresh. For someone like me (getting hot flashes at night) these sheets seem to stay cool but are comfortably cozy. If the linen feel is not for you, they have other cotton sheet sets, too.
On the top right is the fabulous gift basket that we gave away. I just bought that pale pink organic cotton soft robe for a friend in the hospital (they have free gift wrapping in an artistic box). All of Coyuchi’s products are organic and top notch. You can read more about the eco-conscious company on Kim’s post here. I also bought a Turkish towel and a soft cotton T-shirt. Make sure you check out their sales, too.
This one is vintage from Turkey. We bought it on Etsy. Nice to have on cold mornings!
This spot in our bedroom is temporarily tidy for now… why can’t it stay this way, Howard? I’m guilty too.
Soothing or Personal Art
I just purchased the giclée over the bed. It reminds me of the Bay Area fog that’s sometimes outside our windows. The walls are painted in my old standby Benjamin Moore White Dove.
And those are eight ways to create a serene master bedroom…here’s one more. We have a “white noise machine” from Amazon that we turn on every night to block some of the city noise… like the cable car that runs from 5:45 am until a little after midnight :/ Although, after five years living here, I don’t notice it so much anymore.
I’m in Southern California (there’s more on in Instagram stories). Yesterday, I did a little decorating at my son, Tommy’s new apartment in Newport Beach. We hung all his art. And I had a successful shopping trip to Homegoods for pillows and a decorative mirror. I also styled his bookcase (although I told him he could have done it himself if he read my last post 🙂 ). He made me a nice dinner and we watched part of the Grammy’s (love Dolly). Now I am at the Terranea with my husband but before I went to sleep last night, I got a text from Tommy “I appreciate you so much.”
Have a great week and thanks for visiting!
