Casual But Festive Holiday Outfit, Elegant Centerpiece And More

Today for my Sunday favorites with Annie and Cindy, I’m showing a casual but festive holiday outfit for staying home or going out. There are also personalized Christmas stockings that I just purchased for our new family members and an EASY orchid arrangement.

I hope you are enjoying the start of the holidays. We sure are!

Personalized Christmas Stockings

Every year Howard buys lots of little fun gifts for our Christmas stockings like athletic socks, favorite candy, gift cards, etc. In fact, he already went to Target a couple of days ago to get started.

This year we have two new members in our family. Mona is about to be our son’s wife and Leo, our newest two-month old grandson. So I ordered personalized stockings for them to add to the rest of ours.

You can customize them on Etsy in different fonts and colors.

Orchid Island Or Buffet Centerpiece

Orchids last quite a while so this centerpiece will take us through lots of meals at the holidays.

Here’s simply what I did:

  • purchase two orchids from Trader Joe’s or your local farmer’s market (where I got mine)
  • loosen orchid ties and arrange so that you can tie them together in the center
  • place in an oval shaped dish or pot
  • add moss to the ties and to the base
  • spray the leaves with Green Glo plant shine

What To Watch At The Movies: Conclave

Howard and I enjoyed this well-acted film about the Vatican’s selection process of a new pope. There is some intrigue and suspense!

What To Watch On TV: The Marlow Murder Club On BBC (and PBS)

We watched the first season on Hulu. This murder mystery takes place in the pretty English town of Marlow. Apparently there will be a season two coming.

“Retired archaeologist and crossword setter Judith Potts believes that a brutal murder has taken place in the sleepy town of Marlow; when the police refuse to believe her story, she kicks off a private investigation with two unlikely friends.”

  1. Love your orchid arrangement! I see some ornaments at the base after Thanksgiving to carry it through Christmas. It’s so great that orchids last so long.

  5. The holiday season is always wonderful and welcoming new family members makes it extra special. Love the orchid centerpiece idea and your tureen is the perfect vessel. I’ll stop by TJ tomorrow – early – and see what I can rustle something up. Thanks for the what-to-watch suggestions. I feel like we go through so many good shows now and can never have too many in the queue. Happy Thanksgiving, MA! xo

  6. Thank you for suggesting several oval cache pots, as I have long needed one for 2-orchid arrangements. And thank you for showing how to dramatize a double arrangement!

We enjoyed the Marlow Murder Club! Will give Conclave a go, as sometimes, we just run dry of enjoyable shows (that we BOTH want to watch 😉).

Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy family time!

I love British Crime Drama so will give The Marlow Murder Club a try! Your orchids have beautiful leaves. Thank you for reminding me to add moss to the clips on my orchid arrangement. I also buy mine at TJ’s, but have discovered a wholesale supplier open to the public near me. I was surprised to learn there were several suppliers in our area open to the public.

    1. I think a lot of orchids are grown in Florida…so it would be great to find them wholesale…but the Farmer’s Market prices aren’t bad.

  8. Nancy Smith says:

Your kitchen is lovely. May I ask about your countertops?

    1. The countertops were here when we moved in fortunately. The owner said they were granite and not marble but I don’t have more info.

  9. Linda Henderson says:

I really enjoyed Conclave and the Marlow Murder Club.

  10. Your island arrangement is beautiful and your holiday outfit darling! We have not been able to find anything decent to watch lately, so I am excited to give your options a try!!

  11. Nancy Smith says:

Your kitchen is lovely. Can you tell me about your countertops? Thanks!
