Black and White Bathroom Remodel

May 20, 2021 By Mary Ann Pickett 30 Comments

A leak in the shower wall gave Jill the impetus for this black and white bathroom remodel. The wall had to be opened up. She had family coming to stay with her in Los Angeles for a wedding in a few weeks. This was the bathroom they would be using.

Black and White Hall Bathroom Remodel

You know how one thing leads to another. I was happy to help with quick sourcing and decision-making to get the bathroom back in shape before the family came. And Jill had a responsive contractor!

Before Photos of Narrow Hall Bath

The vanity was custom for the narrow space but in bad shape. So was the mirror.

After Photos

The vanity got a nice paint job in Benjamin Moore Onyx, new handles, and a quartz countertop.

This also got a refresh with paint and glass.

One Thing Lead To Another…

Before…

New Hexagon Floor

It has a dark grout which I think is good on floors as light grout shows dirt right away.

Hard to see but there is black penny tile on the shower floor and in the niche.

Since the Home Depot large subway tile is less expensive at just over $2/square foot, we wanted to use it on all the walls. We still had the installation cost, of course, but it does give us an impact on this small bathroom.
Jill researched small soaking tubs and I just said “yay or nay”. She has grandchildren that can have a nice bath here.

Mirrors: Pottery Barn
Faucets: Moen Align
Soaking Tub: Woodbridge
Countertop: Caesarstone Frosty Carrina

Hanging Planter
White Tile: Daltile 4×12 Home Depot
Black hexagon and penny tile: Jojo Design Studio
That’s how we achieved Jill’s black and white bathroom remodel cost-effectively! They had a great family gathering for the wedding and Jill says the bathroom got A LOT of use!

Terrific transformation! you were so fortunate to be able to get a contractor in today”s world. I can’t find anyone for a small job in my kitchen. It is beautiful.

    Hi Mary Ann,,
Beautiful job! It really looks great, so new and up to date. I wish someone had advised me to use dark grout, I always need to scrub ours and I can think of a million other things I’d rather be doing!
Enjoy the weekend, it will be here soon.
    XO Heidi

I was able to do this from San Francisco with Jill in L.A. …but Canada may be tough.

Love, Love! Especially all the black touches. Reminds me that I need to arrange a consult with you on 2 of my smaller bathrooms. With contractors so hard to find in Atlanta right now, I’ll get all excited with your ideas and then have to wait forever to get them implemented. Patience is not one of my strengths!

It’s beautiful Mary Ann! What a dramatic difference and looks so chic and up to date. You definitely worked wonders but then you are the master of all things decor related. I need you to help me with my bathrooms, they’re in desperate need of a major redo!

Did you have the cabinet doors above the toilet replaced or glass inserts added? If inserts were added, who does this kind of work? Really opens it up.

A carpenter can do it. And then the glass is fitted from the local glass store.

What a lovely bathroom makeover! We have bought a house in AZ that needs a lot of attention, especially the bathrooms. I carefully study each detail in your “before and after” posts for inspiration!
