With friends here, Howard made his famous remoulade sauce for crab cakes. I’ve republished this popular post to make sure to give you the recipe with an updated photo! He used the canned lump crab meat from Costco.
Also, this week’s Five Faves is all about entertainment…movies, and such (since we did a lot of movie-watching)! Be sure to catch Annie’s and Cindy’s favorite things this week with links at the end of the post,
1. Fire Pit Heaven – Yukon Solo
Our friend, Carlos got a gift from his wife Dorothy….and he loves it! It was on a major sale…I hope it still is if you are interested.
Dorothy says “it’s smokeless and burns really well.” Yukon solo fire pit. There are tips on their blog for ways to use it…like for cooking.
2. The Best Rémoulade Sauce For Crab Cakes
What REALLY makes Howard’s dish special, is the best remoulade sauce for crab cakes that he’s been making for around 20 years! You will love it.
Howard grew up on the Chesapeake Bay so crab cakes are “near and dear” to him. His favorite fried then broiled-until-browned crab cake recipe is:
Faidley Crab Cakes…recipe here.
The Rémoulade sauce for crab cakes is from the Chesapeake Bay Cookbook by John Shields. It’s a French mayonnaise sauce with capers, mustard, and herbs.
Howard makes crab cakes using the chilled lump crab meat from Costco!

3. A Book To Read or Listen To: “Sisters Of The Great War“
This was an interesting book inspired by real women. It tells the story of two unconventional American sisters who volunteer at the front during World War I.
4. What to Watch on Television
Red Notice on Netflix
We watched Red Notice on Thanksgiving Day and everyone liked it (even though the critics didn’t).
“An FBI profiler pursuing the world’s most wanted art thief becomes his reluctant partner in crime to catch an elusive crook who’s always one step ahead.”
The Holiday
While some of the guys watched football, all the girls and even a couple of the boys enjoyed “The Holiday” movie. Even though I’ve seen it about 100 times! Please tell me you have seen it. We saw it on Netflix.
“Dumped and depressed, English rose Iris agrees to swap homes with similarly unlucky in love Californian Amanda for a much-needed break. Iris finds herself in a palatial Hollywood mansion while Amanda navigates the lanes of a picture-perfect English village. Soon enough, both lovelorn ladies bump into local lads perfect for a romantic pick-me-up.”

I LOVE The Holiday! Probably my all-time favorite movie is Something’s Gotta Give. Also really like It’s Complicated and The Notebook. I’m always wanting suggestions for great things to watch on tv because I can’t seem to find much I like.

Howard’s crab cakes look divine! We watched Red Notice and enjoyed it … it may not win an Oscar, but it’s fun and entertaining. Plus, I love the Rock. House of Gucci is on my list … as is a rewatch of the beloved The Holiday. So glad you guys had a fun Thanksgiving weekend. xo

Thank you for the remoulade recipe! As a native Marylander, I will have to try it right away. Also, my mother has always liked the crab cakes at John Shields’s restaurant in Baltimore, so I think the sauce will be a hit.

The Holiday has been at the top of my list and watched over and over since I found it a few years ago, but most of Nancy Meyers movies are among my faves. Definitely will check out the others you recommend, and luckily my husband will watch anything with me. For me, I’m old school and must see It’s a Wonderful Life, or it’s not Christmas, and then there’s Love Actually. Recipe saved – thanks! I always enjoy your posts.
Mary Ann Pickett says
Yes…I love the oldies but goodies!

Hi Mary Ann,
Extremely useful information this week. I loved the Netflix movie Red Notice. I’ll have to try the Gucci story. The crab cakes with a Rémoulade sauce made my mouth water. Delicious.
Enjoy the holiday season. I’m so excited to spend time with friends and family.
xo,
Karen
Mary Ann Pickett says
Merry Christmas, Karen.

I watched house of Gucci last night, they couldn’t have casted a better actress for Patrizia’s roll, Lady Gaga was fierce. I enjoyed very much.
Mary Ann Pickett says
I thought she was good too!
Donna B. says
I’ve been watching The Holiday for years at Christmas time too. I also watch Love, Actually and Family Stone. Thanks for the recipe!
Mary Ann Pickett says
I will look for Family Stone!

If you have Disney+ you must check out Peter Jackson’s “Get Back” documentary about the making of the Beatles last album, Let It Be. It’s a time commitment (three two-hour episodes) but fascinating. So amazing to watch the process of songs that we’ve known for fifty years (!!) begin to take shape, even as the Beatles come apart. It’s also a testament to their genuine love and friendship. And the clothes are pretty fabulous, too!
The remoulade recipe looks like a great one to try!
Mary Ann Pickett says
I’ve heard that that was good, too…will check it out.

I think the splatters on the cookbook give it character and show it is well used and loved. When my daughter in law wanted to copy out some of my son’s favourite recipes she looked for the cards that were all discoloured and had notes attached with changes I had made, and knew they were favourites.
I love crab cakes! I’ll be trying Howard’s remoulade sauce.
I don’t watch the Hallmark Christmas stories. Too sappy and predictable. I prefer the classics. I must admit that The Grinch Who Stole Christmas is a favourite 🤫 and it’s not Christmas until I’ve seen it and heard the Whos in Whoville sing. Lol
Mary Ann Pickett says
You have a sharp daughter-in-law!
Stacy Koehn says
You had me at Remoulade!!! I’ve been making a copycat version of Houston’s Remoulade Sauce to go with (copycat) Grilled Artichokes – but I’m on my way to Costco for some of that crab! The photo and description – delicious. Thanks for sharing.
Mary Ann Pickett says
Let me know how you like the sauce, Stacy!
