It’s not inexpensive but the wallpaper in a small foyer like ours makes a statement and sets the tone for the entire home! Have you thought about this for your entrance?
The days of painstakingly pulling off dated wallpaper are gone. Now, wallpaper is strip-able especially when the surface is primed.

Priming The Surface
This is a before shot of Kenny, the wallpaper hanger. He was impressed with the smooth finish already on the walls and the premium paint that was used (Benjamin Moore Regal Simply White)…making it easier to have the wallpaper adhere to the surface.

We wanted something that felt coastal but that we wouldn’t get tired of…enter Schumacher’s Abstract Leaf in Linen. I have a trade account but you can also get it here from Wayfair. There are different colors.

Bamboo Mirror Above Heirloom Demilune Table
The French demi-lune table was in our foyer growing up. It gives the entrance hall a bit of a collected look. The Serena and Lily Lanai bamboo mirror heavy and is nice to have near the front door! It’s on sale right now.

It’s nice to have some greenery like a plant or fresh flowers in a foyer.

New Leaf Motif Chandelier
Carrying through with the leaf pattern…this is the small-sized Hampton chandelier by Circa Lighting. It comes in other sizes and finishes, too.

Remember The Ceiling
This “fifth wall” might be my favorite part of the small foyer…look up.

A Bench Or Chair To Remove Shoes In A Wallpapered Foyer
It’s nice to have wicker baskets for guests to remove their shoes.

We recently hung the antique shell print artwork here and added neutral pillows.
And that’s how to make a statement in a small foyer with wallpaper!

Lovely, Mary Ann: all of your colors and textures really work together in your new foyer. The wallpaper and Circa ceiling fixture are very simpatico, as is your heirloom hall table (and your bamboo mirror…)!
You mentioned your baskets for guest shoes: do you have a tactful way to suggest removal of shoes or some great slippers to suggest? I feel self-conscious about this, although we are a slippers-only household and it makes sense in a MW climate much of the year. Or perhaps leave it to the guest to offer?
That’s tough…but when I go to someone’s house and see that their shoes are off…I always offer to take mine off. But I don’t ask people to in our house.
Thanks, Mary Ann!
Hi Mary Ann,
Everything is gorgeous. You have excellent vision.
It seems like everything you touch turns out so well. Making the decisions is not an easy process. It’s probably more challenging creating your own home than working on a clients home.
Kenny did an excellent job on the wall paper hanging. Doing the ceiling must had been hard.
Kenny is good…has a long waiting list.
Wallpaper on ceiling!! ❤️❤️.
May I ask if you request guests to remove shoes and how to do graciously?
I can’t do it, Carolyn. But if they offer…
Your foyer is so lovely. You do beautiful things with wallpaper!
This is beautiful! Could you share the wallpaper primer the installer used please?
Love your blog! You give us such beautiful ideas for our homes. I have a tip for you – paint lamp cords the same as the background color and they barely show. The cord on your foyer lamp could be painted to match the table or the wallpaper. Small detail, but makes a huge difference.
I love this idea, Linn! I hate seeing cords.
Love the paper and the serena and lily mirror! Looks fabulous. Little by little you are putting your signature classic casual look in your beautiful home!
Thanks, Cindy! You are doing the same thing!
Not sure I have ever admired a foyer more! Wow! The chandelier and the wallpaper is coastal elegance at it’s finest. Congratulations on your new home. It is beautiful.
You are so sweet, Donna!!!
Another creative design. You really know how to pull different period pieces together cohesively!
Thanks, Carmie!
LOVE IT!!
I love the rug and the bench as well as the incredible chandelier and wallpaper.
It’s really looking beautiful.

What a stunning foyer, I adore everything. The wallpaper is the perfect choice and love it on the ceiling. I’ve always loved that Serena and Lily mirror and the Circa light fixture is perfection. Everything you’ve done so far is gorgeous!
Thanks, Gail. We are getting a new front door…which is taking forever.
Came out beautiful Mary Ann! Love that you carried the wallpaper all the way to the ceiling. Circa has the best lighting. ❤️
Linda
Thanks, Linda!
MA … the Schumacher wallpaper is perfect. The delicate pattern and neutral color … sublime. And, the ceiling! Amazing. I agonized over wallpapering our foyer ceiling. Looks like you have tall ceilings and that is a huge plus. I love that you were able to work in your family heirloom, looks like it was made for the space. And I’m a huge fan of the Serena & Lily mirror. Their mirrors are heavy … it irritates Jim when hangs them. I tell him it means they’re good quality and he’s lucky to own it. You can imagine his reaction. Have such a great time in Atlanta. I’ll miss you. xo
They are 10′ ceilings, Juliet. Jim is such a great guy!
Gorgeous foyer! Where did the cool pillow come from?
My friend and pillow fabricator, Liana made it but she is not longer in the business.
I never think about wallpapering a ceiling. So pretty! Makes a huge difference!
You can see your painting from the foyer.
Beautiful! Where is your rug from please?
It’s about 30 years old…hand-tied Persian. It’s been in so many different places with all our moves!
Love the whole space – the ‘demi-lune’ wrought iron table with sexy Italian marble top is quite a find! Your wallpaper choice is perfect.
It’s actually wood. It was my parent’s.
Your new foyer is so perfect for your beachy location. The wallpaper, mirror and light fixture are just super! I also have used wallpaper in a small space……my WC. It’s a subdued animal print, abstract and light in color and I loved it so much I put it in my current house after having it in previous house over 20 years ago. The Serena and Lily mirror makes such a great statement to anyone entering your home. Great finds!
I’ve had two lamps like yours for years. It is such a versatile little lamp.
Beautiful! Thanks for all the good ideas!
Thank you!!
Your foyer is wonderful! Your wallpaper, mirror and chandelier choices are so good together. I am now motivated to wallpaper my tiny powder room ceiling.
Thanks so much! I like it too.
Wow — that is gorgeous! Love the wallpaper on the ceiling!
That’s my favorite part!
