Today we are talking about stay-at-home style with four stylish over-fifty bloggers. In my case, I am showing versatile puffer vests as there is no heat in my office (in our 100-year-old SF apartment building with radiators) so I love the extra layer. I also like to wear a puffer (down-filled) vest while walking Chief on the hills here as I can layer up or down.
If you live in a colder climate, a down vest may work for you with even more layers. When I think of a colder climate, I am reminded of when we lived in New York as newlyweds. Fun, but I thought it was freezing for this California girl. Then, we moved to Chicago! That wind off of the lake. Oh, man! But as I told a virtual client from Chicago…the nicest people live there and I always told Howard that I would be open to moving back. I’m digressing…
Let me show you how I wear puffer vests (basically all year round in San Francisco)! And also follow the links at the end of the post for stay at home wear inspiration from my friends.
How to Layer Puffer Vests
Black Puffer Vest
Mine is a few years old but here are some similar ones…
Vintage Soft Classic Hoodie Sweatshirt
My sweatshirt (above) from last year is super cozy and not too expensive from the Gap. This year it comes in black instead of dark grey and in other colors. I am thinking about getting it in dusty pink with the sweat pants or heather grey…how cozy is that? My daughter bought the set in oatmeal heather.
Soft Flattering Leggings From Athleta
These are my favorite workout leggings as they hold in my stomach and have a deep pocket to stash a credit card or a few bills or your telephone. They are the first ones I pull out of my drawer if they are clean. Comes in tall, medium, and petite. I got the petite medium.
Running Shoes That Give You That Extra Pep
Howard gave me new running shoes for Christmas which is so thoughtful as I feel like they are a bit of a splurge…actually the ones he got me were even more expensive, but I returned them for these as I like them better.
Metallic Puffer Vest
This is a fun, new twist on a down vest. It’s metallic velvet by Athletic and I like how it covers my rear. This is an extra small since I’m short. Chief couldn’t care less about puffer vests!
I’m wearing it with another soft favorite, a luxe soft lightweight sweatshirt that has pull-down sleeves with thumb holes in case your hands get cold.
And those are the versatile puffer vests that I wear all the time! Check out this little slideshow that I made for Pinterest…
I can’t wait to see what these ladies recommend…

I love puffer vests and although I can’t wear them very often in Florida they are perfect with a long sleeved tee and leggings on a rare cold day! Your black and metallic look great and I loved you slideshow!

Love a puffer vest, Mary Ann. And they’re perfect for our East Bay climate … cool in the morning and warm by afternoon. I’m trying to up my quarantine wardrobe game and ordered two of those lightweights sweatshirts … black and olive. And, I need a new pair of walking/workout shoes … I love the Asics and used to wear them for running. Back when I was in shape. We bought ourselves a treadmill for Christmas so new shoes may be just what gets me on it! Happy New Year! xo

Mary Ann,
I love puffer vests. Like you living in Southern California, we don’t suffer freezing weather and it’s nice to be warm but while walking I find I get even warmer. The vests work perfectly.
Great items are shown and I will be shopping.
xo,
Karen

You are just darling! I love the photo of you with your son and daughter. Beautiful sunset (and I noticed you on your tip toes. Cute)
Mary Ann Pickett says
Yes, Kathy, how did I get such tall kids?
Melinda says
I think Chief is protesting and is ready for his walk. I love that long vest
Mary Ann Pickett says
He sure looks like that, Melinda 🙂

Thinking about getting the hoodie in the blue…would you say it runs true to size? I love Athleta, I’m in their leggings right now! During the week I’m in athletic wear unless I have to run errands. I have to wear regular clothes once in awhile!
No apology needed speaking about what happened yesterday. I think we are all still reeling from it. Trump needs to go ASAP. He could do more damage in the next 2 weeks.
Susan Blakey says
I’m a big fan of puffer vests! They’re perfect for our changeable weather. And that metallic velvet one…oh, I think I may need to order!!
Mary Ann Pickett says
I wear the metallic one a lot, Susan…I bet everyone in the neighborhood recognizes me by it (and Chief). Love your post. You have a classic style.
Squeak says
If I wore a puffer vest I’d look like Bib the Michelin Man!
Mary Ann Pickett says
Ha!!! You are so funny. I do look chunky in the puffier version but as my daughter told me…everyone does, it’s a puffer vest!
Karen says
I LOVE YOUR CHOICES! Can’t help but think…..your husband must think, you are the cutest thing to walk this earth….you are adorable, thanks for sharing your fashion style.
Mary Ann Pickett says
You are so sweet, Karen. I have to say, Howard is a good guy and puts up with me, and brings me coffee in bed every morning 🙂
Dora Renata Pala says
Deliziosa, molto carina con tutte le versioni.
Mary Ann Pickett says
Grazie!

Good morning Mary Ann, I will be honest, once I come home from yoga class and walking my pups in the morning I am back in comfy pjs or yoga clothes. Especially if I do not have to leave the house.
As for Chicago, I love Chicago and in fact attended the University of Chicago. It is a beautiful city and a wonderful place to live.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful home, pup and fun comfy clothes. I am off to check out your links.
Mary Ann Pickett says
Such a great school, Elizabeth! Thanks for commenting.
Linda Henderson says
I liked your selections. I read many positive comments on the Athleta brand. Love the photo of Chief. He’s precious. Also, I appreciate your comments on the violence we witnessed yesterday in D.C.
Mary Ann Pickett says
Thanks for being a subscriber, Linda. I do like Athleta perhaps even better than Lululemon.
cindy says
This was a great post. That Athleta vest tempts me but I do have a long silver one already so I probably don’t need it! It looks darling on you! Your sister needs that vest with her gorgeous hair!
Mary Ann Pickett says
I remember your silver vest…you look so great in it. I am actually wearing an old black fake fur vest today that I bought 20 years ago in Paris. Vests are great.
