home-made cookies, love notes & bouquets
Each year, Susie bakes and decorates Valentine cookies for family members.
How do I get one?
Susie in baking mode. Am I really this short?
She hangs them on branches in her living room.
Tips from Susie:
Make plenty of extra cookies – they get eaten up quickly! Any rolled sugar cookie recipe will do – I think I usually use a Martha Stewart version.
Use a straw to “punch” holes in the unbaked cookie so you have a place to tie your ribbons. I have been collecting ribbons for the tree for years – I clean and reuse them every year. The quince branches are usually purchased from Urban Gardener (local florist).
The icing is a royal icing recipe – egg whites and powdered sugar –
again from a Martha Stewart recipe. I use red food coloring in different amounts to achieve different shades of pink/red. Sometimes I use a purplish color to mix it up!
Thanks, Susie…may I have this one?
We need these to copy Susie’s designs…
People you care about will appreciate a
simple statement card from REDSTAR Ink.
The cards are hand-made on heavy stock (set of eight).
My friend, Claire has the one I gave her on her bulletin board.

My husband knows that I like all white flowers
(love that guy and his Costco flowers)
but this simple arrangement makes me happy, too, OR
these dark pink dahlias with a touch of dark purple are pretty Valentine’s Day bouquets.

Cookies hanging on a branch would be SO much of a temptation for me! LOL There would be no decorations after only a day or so….
but this tree sure is cute! 🙂
Girl….I could not have those cookies hanging in my house. I would not sleep thinking about them…..
Looks cute though!!!
I am a new follower of yours. The Valentine cookies and cards are beautiful.
Yay, my previous comment went through. Looks like the glitch we had last week is a thing of the past! xo
When I was growing up my mom made giant heart cookies every year for our classrooms and friends with each persons name on them. Boy does this bring back great memories!
Yum! I really shouldn't have read this at 11:30pm, because now I want a cookie 🙂 Susie is quite the cookie artist, and I love how she hung them on the branches.
Love the cookies! I would probably eat them before decorating…:) Karen
