Here are some comfortable yet chic travel outfits for women over 50. With our only grandchild across the country and my husband, Howard retired, we’ve been doing quite a bit of travel. It’s good to have versatile clothes for the airplane that work at your destination. Especially for now: Fall and Winter.
You probably already have these elements in your closet…so no need to buy new. But sometimes as my friend Juliet says (from Make Mine A Spritzer) “one or two new things can make your whole suitcase feel fresh.”
Travel Outfits For Women Over 50
The color black for travel can be your friend! So are no zipper pants on an airplane and washable tee shirts.
Black Washable Jacket, Gap Tee, Ankle Pants, Birdies Loafers
This Eileen Fisher washable long black blazer is an investment but it is so versatile. It’s comfortable on the airplane but dressy enough to wear to a nice restaurant. I’m wearing it with matching ankle length ponte slim elastic waist pants.

The white tee is from the Gap (petite medium) and the Birdies tasseled loafers can make running around the airport comfortable. I love the sturdy leather tote bag (with laptop compartment) from well-priced Quince.
The above photo was at 6 am at the Jacksonville airport. My lipstick wasn’t even on straight (my only makeup) but I did feel pulled together.

Cashmere Cardigan, Black Spanks Elasticized Waist Pants And Black Sneakers
The Mongolian cashmere boyfriend sweater from Quince is very nice.

I’m wearing it with an old black turtleneck, new flattering kick flared Spanks pants (medium regular–I could have gone with Petite sizing for a shorter length) and On Cloud sneakers.

The crossbody Italian leather purse is a favorite of mine. The Away suitcase has seen years of use and still looks good! I clean it with a Magic Erase.
Black Shirt With White Sneakers
I showed you this airplane outfit that I wore during our recent trip to Portugal.

Eileen Fisher Cotton Gauze Shirt (worn as a cardigan is very soft and nice for layering) • Cotton Scarf similar) inexpensive from Amazon • Loft Tee shirt • Backpack with laptop compartment • Sneakers as comfortable walking shoes • Eileen Fisher washable crepe straight trousers • Bembien Tote Bag sold out

I’m still in California. This time at Cindy’s house for our creator’s retreat. What are your travel plans?
Mary Ann—I’ve never ordered from Quince. May I ask what size you’re wearing in the gray cardigan? The website states it runs big and I’m petite, size 6-8. Did you find it petite-friendly? Thank you
Last week I ordered the Prime sale items that you shared and I absolutely love them! Today I ordered the Quincy black purse, Spanx pants and Eileen marino wool sweater that Cindy posted last week. You girls make shopping easy! Hope you have a fantastic retreat. I’m a little jealous because I LOVE Paso Robles.
Love all of your travel outfits! How do you like the Quince cardigan? It looks great…
What size did you get?
I like it. I’m wearing a XS.
Always great tips for travel and I bet you’re having a fabulous time at Cindy’s beautiful home. Have fun creating new ideas!
Thanks, Gail.
Hi Mary Ann,
Wow, you have been traveling a lot. I admire that you just keep putting yourself together so well.
How nice you helped babysit your granddaughter. You are always so present for your family.
Now you and many bloggers are at Cindy’s gorgeous home for a creator’s retreat. Knowing how anything Cindy does things she will pull out all the stops, just like you always do. Have a memorable time together.
Thanks so much…it’s been good to get together.
