When my cousin, Patricia, was visiting from New Jersey, she asked for advice regarding a makeover for their little powder room off the kitchen and under the stairs…that looked like this…
I said “Sure, let’s ask Jim (her husband was at home) to send us some photos and measurements and we’ll work on the plan while you are visiting.”
Patricia and I went shopping at Roger’s Gardens while she was here.
These are the before photos… time for an update.
This sconce and mirror had to go and we didn’t really need the medicine chest. Nice photo, Jim.
Here is their powder room now…
White bead board is used for a fresh look. Patricia found the cute corner pedestal sink at Home Depot online (with the room size and door placement, this was the only solution–I know, I drew it out).
The walls were painted Restoration Hardware Silver Sage.
A French style crystal ceiling light was installed. This is very similar to a style from Circa Lighting fixture that I recommended, and Patricia found it in her local lighting store. Pretty glow on the ceiling.
We ordered the reasonably priced Venetian mirror from Wisteria.
The painting has special meaning as they bought it when they were
visiting us in Paris years ago.
So, we went from this…
Have a great day!

Keep up the good work, it does look great! Especially the orchid flower there! Construction CRM
The décor of tiny powder room before and after shown by you is excellent. Thanks for sharing
What were the actual dimensions of the powder room? We are thinking of converting a hall closet in our 1906 house to a powder room and do not want to have to tear down walls to make it larger, especially since the walls border the dining room and formal foyer area. What are the dimensions of the sink and toilet? thank you!!
It was about 38" high…to be under the window.
What a lovely makeover. Would you mind telling me what the height of your chair rail is? We are looking to do the same and your height looks perfect!
Wish you could have left the old sink. It was so cool; perfect full of personality with the chubbiness of it and the backsplash built in.
Sheila
Mary Ann,
You have one beautiful makeover…full of CHARM!!
Blessings,
Linda
Such a pretty update that will last them for years to come as it's so classic. And love that Jim was such a good sport at taking the before photos.
What a beautiful makeover Mary Ann!! It looks so fresh and bright and that mirror is just stunning. Happy New Year to you!

Good job,the powder room looks much better than before. Love it. Julia
I love this color. It makes me feel so good. My powder room looks similar to the before photo. While nice at one time it is showing its age. I too have been wanting to do something, but I am a little overwhelmed by it all. This seems so perfect.
I did not understand KathySue’s comment “hard to read right” She said you did a good job so I know it was not a negative, but not sure what she means by that comment. I would like to know before I run out and commit myself to this color.
BTW, Roger’s Garden is a wonderful place to just walk through. Any troubles you may have had just float away.
Perhaps Kathysue meant that the color isn't coming across well in my photos. I have it in my laundry room, too, if you want to check it out. It is a nice greenish blue.
Thanks. Looking at this makes me want to start stripping the wallpaper.
So very pretty! The light is beautiful, bet they are loving it.

Happy New year.
Mary Ann,
Wonderful! I love the tiny sink and the mirror…the light fixture. Beautiful.

annie
mary ann I would say it is MUCH improved, I would imagine they are delighted with the new fresh look. I love silver sage, it is a hard color to read right, but it reads very well in this room. So pretty and soft and true to its soft grey/green.
Happy weekend,
Kathysue
What a wonderful makeover!!! I love the wall color and the bead board — and the ceiling light fixture is beautiful. I'm sorry to see the original corner sink gone, as it looked very charming, but the new sink is lovely too. Nice job!
Claudia
Beautiful transformation. I love the silver sage color and the mirror is fabulous. Thanks for sharing, Ginger
Very crisp and fresh. Also loving that floating shelf for hand towels.
Wow….what an amazing transformation from frumpy to fabulous! I love the Venetian mirror and the bead board and wall color are perfect! But that painting from Paris is the icing on the cake! Again…..Great job Mary Ann! Do you know where she got the little glass shelf that holds the guest paper towels? I need that for my powder room! Suppose my talented husband could rig something up like it!
What a wonderful difference! That paint color is so gorgeous! I could practically drink it. I do stuff like that, you know!
Happy new year!, Barbara
Lovely job! It looks great and love the paint!
Mary Anne, you did a fabulous job! I love your style and reading your blog. My husband & I will be celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary in 2013 and are planning to visit Paris, London and Italy. Can you recommend places to stay in Paris. We love small boutique hotels. When is the best time to go? We are thinking June or July. You can contact me at [email protected]. Thank you for any recommendations!
The space is completely transformed!!! Love it!
Mary Anne….Love the color…so pretty. You did a fabulous job!
Beautiful update! And her husband was quite the trooper taking pictures. I am sure my husband would say, "Oh just wait till you get home and you take the pictures!" Tell that Jersey girl to expect snow tomorrow! We are expecting 2-5 inches where we live! Happy New Year to you!
Cheers! – Shelley
Well done! Love the paint color and it looks so fresh and clean and crisp after its makeover, great job. Hope your Christmas was merry!
I love corner sinks and Jersey girls! Seriously, what a fresh makeover. Beaded board is timeless. I used to have a corner sink in one of my baths in my 20's bachelorette pad, so vintage & fun! Happy New Year to you and yours.
Great change. It was time for an update. Love the light.
That is the perfect transformation. Taking down the wallpaper makes it feel larger. I have not noticed that mirror on Wisteria….love that.
Wow, I can't believe the difference. I love the colour of the walls.
Beautifully done! I love the beadboard, the mirror and that painting.
Pam
Great job Mary Ann. Looks so fresh and pretty with your updates.
