It’s only a two and a half hour direct flight from San Francisco to Cabo San Lucas, Baja California, Mexico. But it feels worlds away with the warm breezes and turquoise water. My husband surprised me with a quick weekend get-away for our anniversary (33 years) with a stay at The Cape in Cabo. Cabo means “cape” in Spanish.
The hotel’s interiors are the perfect mix of warm woods, colorful patterned tile, and modern but comfortable furnishings. Definitely a very “happening” vibe but with friendly, professional service that makes all your travel tensions melt away.
Every room has a view. This was ours from the balcony. The glass doors push back to open up to this! Notice the tile floor. Our balcony also had this comfortable swing. The ocean breeze would make it gently sway.
On our anniversary…
The first night we had a delicious dinner at Manta, the dressier of the hotel’s restaurants, but still with a relaxed feel.
This was our view during dinner…
The lobby is open to the ocean air and there is a pool table and bar.
The next night, I suggested that we have room service to take advantage of our balcony…and it was great. I want to do that again on our next trip there (hopefully someday!). We watched a small wedding ceremony below.
On Sunday, after some time by the pool, we had brunch at the hotel’s more casual restaurant called The Ledge. Even if you stay someplace else in Cabo, I would recommend coming here for brunch or lunch. They had live music.
Howard had the buffet but I wanted…
the fresh ceviche tostadas again (I had them for our first lunch by the pool)!
In fact, in an effort to extend our vacation (and get back on Weight Watchers) I looked up recipes for it. This one seems pretty close…Ceviche Tostadas.
Guess who also loves The Cape in Cabo (and a poolside cabana)?! They are dog-friendly…and basically friendly in general 🙂
THIS IS LIVING!

Or wait until winter for you, Debra! Except the prices are good now. Perhaps we need a bloggers retreat there??
Love this! Especially love that it’s dog friendly. Thanks for sharing Mary Ann!
I confess, I’m laughing at that wedding. I think there are more people in the wedding party than there are guests!
Looks like a fabulous getaway.
I know! I thought that same thing, Carol.
What a terrific husband you have to plan such a perfectly perfect surprise! Everyone I know is going to Mexico these days. I’ve kept my distance of late because you hear of so much violence and kidnappings down there. But I’m so motivated to get back there, especially since seeing your post. Happy Anniversary!!
I know what you mean, Celia…I have heard the stories too. The hotel handles the transportation to and from the airport. But I still think it’s important to be careful.
What a beautiful surprise for your anniversary. Such a lovely hotel too. Ive been to Cabo many times for work and we always stayed in San Jose del Cabo. I loved it there, wonderful restaurants, great beach clubs and pretty ocean views (although no swimming in the ocean because it was too dangerous.) And so easy to get to! I bet Chief was in his glory being a pampered pouch in a posh resort.
Happy Anniversary!
What a lovely way to celebrate and totally get away from it all. Thanks for the detailed info.

Karen
I LOVE it that Chief got to go too!
Chief is a good little traveler, Jamie! And he loves chasing the waves.
Mary Ann,
What a nice surprise! Looks amazing! And you brought Chief!!
Happy Anniversary!

Thanks, Annie!
FANTASTIC! I am planning a fall vacation right now and this looks perfect. Thanks!
Amazing! Your descriptions take us there too (the breeze and the swing).
P.S. Keep him! 🙂
Ah yes, Kim…only there for two nights but so relaxing that it felt like more. I AM keeping him 🙂
