Hello! It’s still winter but we can look forward to warmer weather with Spring styling for your coffee table, some layered wardrobe ideas (that you probably have in your closet), my favorite place to buy vases…
And there’s more as it’s Five Fave time with Annie and Cindy!
1. Target For Vases And Simple Flowers
I love flowers on display at home and like to give them away in vases. So, it’s good to be on the look out for stylish, well-priced vases. Like my latest vase on the dining room table.
2. Spring Styling For Your Living Room Coffee Table
There are steps below. Such as cleaning the table, using coffee table books and a tray as an anchor, followed by decorative objects such as a bowl, box or basket, then a candle and something fresh like a bouquet of flowers, a fruit bowl or greenery. Limit the number of accessories to avoid clutter.
Consider the shape (if it’s a round coffee table: three items look good, square: four items for balance in each quadrant and for a rectangle: three items). Of course, feel free to play with it!
I like to use texture and change the tabletop decorative accents seasonally.
Shop the room:
3. J. Jill Winter Sale
Short Cuffed-Sleeve Open-Front Cardi is on major sale plus an extra 40% off…different colors too. It’s a nice little extra layer for Spring. I was alerted by a reader (thanks Katie) that this vest is no longer available and I linked to the shorter version (which looks nice to me, too).
4. Jeans And Sneakers: Outfit Of The Week — You Probably Have Something Similar In Your Closet Already
I walked into a Madewell store the other day, and the mannequin at the front of the store and I were wearing practically the same thing (a version below). The manager even commented on it!
Ray-ban sunglasses • black pearls (I have some that were my mom’s — these look really pretty from Etsy too) • oversized blouse (I wear this inexpensive cami from Amazon under it that my sister told me about) • pretty blue cashmere sweater • straight leg jeans (I have these in petite–wearing them in the coffee table styling photos above) • woven leather bag • white sneakers (I’ve thought about buying a popular French brand but these have the insoles that you can walk miles in)
5. What To Read/Listen To
The Spectacular by Fiona Davis. “New York City, 1956: Nineteen-year-old Marion is over the moon to have been selected to be one of the Rockettes, at Radio City Music Hall.”
There is also a serial murderer and romance in the story. This is such a “page turner”…although I listened to the audio version through the Libby app. My SF library card finally expired so I signed up for a Jacksonville one. I encourage you to also! It’s free.
6. A New Rug For Spring
On Thursday, I posted Ways To Make Your Bedroom A Retreat, and some people wanted to know the vintage style wool rug source. It used to be on Etsy and now it is here: The Rug Decor. The shop is online only. I have three of their well-priced rugs (like this one in our Guest Room) and love them.

We don’t have spring yet here in Michigan, but I love seeing suggestions for spring! I always enjoy ideas to refresh my coffee table no matter the season. What do you think of a large round woven tray for a large round coffee table? I recently picked one up at Homegoods – it’s Serena & Lily-like with its scalloped edges – but can’t decide if it works. Your pink shirt is a lovely bright spot of color. I’m going to check out those Madewell shoes as I haven’t yet found non-athletic sneakers for everyday wear for my very picky feet. Thanks!

I love the look of the bench you use in your dining room. Can you share the source?
Mary Ann Pickett says
It’s from Williams Sonoma Home.

Mary Ann,
I always love your coffee table styling tips! So thoughtful and easy to take these tips and use them with what you have and the shape of your coffee table! You’ve thought of everything!
Love your flowers and tapers on the dining room table…I love how it picks up the color from your copper pots!
And that vest or open front cardigan! You look amazing in that! So versatile too!

Looking forward to spring and using your styling refresh ideas. I love white shirts, and I’m also smitten with the bright pink one you are wearing in the styling photos. Would you care to share the source for that one as well?
Mary Ann Pickett says
That’s from Anthro. They are out of the pink but there are other colors. Thank you.

Hello, MaryAnn, I guess it’s going to be 80 today on the Central Coast. However I’m on a cruise which just left the Tahitian islands and is headed for NZ. When we stopped in Honolulu, I found a target so I could bring in fresh flowers for my cabin. Again in Papeete, I bought gardenias which make the room smell so good, without overwhelming. It’s timely that you are showing black pearls since I just came from the area where they are grown. Thousands, I’m sure millions, of temptations! Have a good week whatever the weather.
Mary Ann Pickett says
Ha! That is something I would definitely do…flowers for the room!

Mary Ann, I just bought a new plant for the coffee table yesterday so I can refresh it, is these are good tips. I also got and flowers for the front porch! I think just these little bits make it feel like spring isn’t so far away, and that’s been nice on the dark days the past week!
Love this look with the jeans and sweater and sneakers! Hope you have a great week. xo

Do you have a discount code for the sneakers?
Mary Ann Pickett says
no sorry!

Okay, bloggers and influencers, please slow your roll with Spring!! It’s Winter and will be for a while. I get anxiety when you are rushing us through our lives. Can we not constantly be reminded of how short life is and always thinking so far ahead. I know you have to think ahead but this is too far ahead. Let us enjoy the moment without the added stress that comes with thinking about the extra work that comes with spring and summer. Winter is a nice time to enjoy no yard work, porch and patio upkeep etc.. Love your site and all you hard work and I have said this to others as well so,don’t feel picked on. Let us enjoy the moment we are in and I hope you to can relax a bit and do the same.
Mary Ann Pickett says
Ok, Dianne, I understand. I wasn’t thinking about it being extra work as coffee table styling is like a zen moment for me. And probably due to living in Florida, I’m a little closer to Spring. In fact, Howard and I are going out to buy plants for the yard today…and I’m going to wash some windows for a brunch we are having next weekend.
But we did live in New York and Illinois and I remember the luxury of weekends and reading the paper/books all day by a fire, while it was quietly snowing outside. That was nice too.

Hi, I’m in New Jersey and we have not had much winter weather except for a short cold spell so with the temps being in the high 40’s and 50’s the buds are starting to pop out on trees and some in the ground which just seems way too soon. The rain and damp weather feel like spring already and for me I need a good winter first before I can face the Spring clean ups and plantings. Yes, having a few months of rest from that is wonderful but I did not take into consideration that many live in warm areas all the time and I do apologize. for my somewhat harsh reply. Enjoy your shopping trip for plants and flowers, in the meantime I’ll just focus on my stack of books and piles of wood for the fireplace for the time being and pray for a good snowstorm or two before I look at Spring things. Thanks for all the work you put into the blog, I and many others really do enjoy it.

I like hearing from you. A lot of times it seems like bloggers start too early but it’s also due to the way people research things (which is really early according to Pinterest and Google). Are you near Summit? That’s where my cousin lives and it’s beautiful.

Wow! Now living in the upper MW, but having lived in SE Virginia, DC, SoCal, and NorCal, visible signs of “Spring” is up to 2 months different aX the continental U.S. What is unique about this zone 5 climate is Spring begins without trees leafing out for 4-6 weeks, so to a non-native, it doesn’t seem like Spring “has sprung”!
Nevertheless, needing to wash interior windows for upcoming house guests was one of the mad thoughts running through my head when I could not sleep last night…
Thank you, Mary Ann, for the coffee table styling suggestions, as well as for the the sneakers. Heading to Italy in a month for a small “Italy Fashion” tour and suggested “smart casual” attire with my bad feet has me searching for stylish but super-comfy boots and sneakers (lots of underfoot cushioning).

I wonder if this sentiment may be somewhat dependent on each of our geographical locations? I also live in Jacksonville (not too far from Mary Ann) and our weather over the last week has been very spring-like…warm temps, azaleas are starting to bloom, I was at the beach yesterday because the weather was so nice! So it’s hard not to look toward spring related things when it feels like it’s already here. I imagine if I were in a colder climate I may not feel the same, though. Off to plant some flowers and clean my windows, too…. 😉

Well, it’s going to be 75 in the Bay Area today so….I think there are many of us for whom winter is like Spring, bulbs are already blooming, robins are on the grass and the beach is clear and sunny. My kind of winter for sure.

Sounds gorgeous.
