Six Simple Updates To Make Your Bathroom Feel New

Here are simple updates to make your bathroom feel new without breaking the bank. Check out what we did to breathe new life into the guest bathroom of the new home we purchased two years ago in Atlantic Beach, Florida.

A general contractor was not needed for these easy bathroom updates. Since the previous owners used a neutral bathroom vanity (with a more modern height), nice bathroom fixtures in brushed nickel, a pretty natural stone countertop and neutral floor tile we saved on the labor costs of plumbing and tiling a major bathroom renovation.

And I’m joining other talented bloggers, Cindy, Annie and Michele with their bathroom makeover ideas. Their links are at the end of the post.

Bathroom Before, When We Purchased The Home

Updates To Make Your Bathroom Feel New

1. Bathroom With A Fresh Coat Of Paint

The first thing we did before we moved into the house was to have all the rooms including this one painted the neutral color of Benjamin Moore Simply White. Using a bright color is a great  way to make the space feel fresh, especially considering that here is no natural light here.

Note that the sinks, faucets, towel racks and bathroom hardware (drawer pulls) are nice so we were fortunate that we didn’t need to update those.

2. New Light Fixtures For A Simple Decor Upgrade

The new tubular lights on a dimmer are a cost-effective way to give the room a brand-new look.

3. New Vanity Mirror With A More Modern Look

These mirrors with the narrow frames give a big impact for a simple bathroom refresh.

The classic white built-ins have good storage, especially for a guest bath. The great smelling liquid hand soap is by L’OCCITANE. Guests often comment on it!

4. Washable Rug Instead Of A Bath Mat

Adding a more modern Ruggable rug is an easy way to make the bathroom feel fresh and it warms up the ceramic tile floor. The rug system involves a topper that is more like a soft floor cloth that goes on top of a padded rug mat that keeps is secure and makes it softer to walk on…so be sure to buy their special rug pad if you are going to get a Ruggable.

And it’s great that you can wash it to keep it hygienic for guests.

We also added a sturdy Amerock robe hook (on sale) from Target to hold a guest robe. The convex antiqued round mirror is something that we’ve had for years.

5. Art On Bathroom Walls For A Pop Of Color And Visual Interest

Colorful original art with a coastal theme makes a bold statement and also personalizes the room’s décor.

The lady at the beach painting reminds me of me sitting on our nearby sand. I bought it on a recent trip to Charleston. The girl on the bicycle was done by my friend, Clair McCorkle.

6. Fresh White Quality Bath And Hand Towels

These towels from Quince feel like a highend hotel’s: Ultra Plush Turkish Towel Set.

The art above the toilet is from eBay. The existing white subway and sea glass colored tiles are timeless, especially living by the coast. There is no bathtub here but instead a large step in shower with no need for a shower curtain.

Love the updates, Mary Ann! We were working within a similar footprint as far as vanity area and couldn’t fit sconces on either side of the medicine cabinets/mirrors. So I’m relieved to see I’m not the only one with lights above those mirrors. Not ideal, but priorities and space, yes? It was more important to us to have large medicine cabinets for storage. Love how you added art in that space between the mirrors too – have been considering doing it too. Honored to be linking with you today, friend.
