Thanks for hanging in there for the
completion of Tommy’s room for
The One Room Challenge
(where twenty bloggers make over a room in six weeks).
The goals for our college aged son’s room were to make it:
• comfortable
• somewhat masculine
• classic but fresh with a modern country vibe
• not spend a lot of money and repurpose furnishings

I might be over-doing the photos here…
but Liana, who made the pillows (I love that girl),
took so many good shots, I couldn’t decide.
To recap, the vintage French travel poster
was a starting point.
I revamped an IKEA pendant to give it more
of an industrial feel
(total cost about $75).
Here is the somewhat blah before photo for comparison.
The ticking stripe curtains (an extra long shower curtain)
were bought on Etsy and I already had the convex mirror.
I simply spray painted the lamps black and hand painted
the chests with Annie Sloan chalk paint.
Tommy is at school in Gainesville, Florida,
but his buddy, Todd, sent him the above photo.
Here is another before photo…
And after…
I arranged the little succulents and shells myself.
The 24″ square pillows are made with printed linen from
China Seas (Nitik II) and the bolster is Belgium linen
with Duralee trim (Whisker Border).
The wall mirror is from IKEA.
Even though this wasn’t part of the challenge,
here is Tommy’s attached
This room is on its way to San Francisco.
If you haven’t heard, we are moving there for
a fun job opportunity for my husband.

We found an apartment on Russian Hill
with great bay views on a picturesque
(but unfortunately noisy) cable car line.
I just bought a “white noise machine” on
Amazon and will let you know how it works.
