Modern Farmhouse Family Room Before/After

The scale of this home, with rough hewn beams and French terra-cotta floors give it a grand farm house feel.  The family room is the center of a home with three busy children.  The owners wanted a fresh, stress free, more modern look.

This is a bad photo but it makes a really good before picture!
 And now!
The speakers had to stay where they are, but
we made the shelving a bit more uniform (I like that so much better).  It was restyled it using mostly their existing accessories and books.  That cute gold sphere is new from West Elm though.
Two Lee Industries sofas (instead of the sectional) are covered in Perennials Ishi… easy to clean indoor/outdoor fabric that looks like linen.  The homeowners purchased the tree trunk coffee table from a custom shop in Berkeley, CA.  With the angled fireplace coming so far into the room… it was a challenge to get as much television viewing seating as possible.
And speaking of that…the coffee table accessories (mostly from West Elm) were kept low for easy viewing of the television
and the fireplace.

The window seat is getting a make over…forthcoming.  The simple addition of the plant on the mantel brings in some life.  The dad’s chair is also made from Perennials fabric.  We are getting him a small ottoman and the room still needs task lighting and a rug.
A little detail…

Soft jute rugs under consideration…custom cut to the angle of the fireplace.

My son just told me that he was reading some of my old posts (that was a surprise in itself) and they had some spelling typos–yikes!!!  Sorry about that.  If you want…when you see a typo, please email me or leave a comment so I can correct it.  Hope I don’t get 100’s of emails 🙂

This blog is not exactly a moneymaker…I do it to help you with your own decorating ideas and fill you in on what I think is great at the moment.  All in a positive environment (I try to keep politics, etc, out of it).

Guess what the bonuses have been?  I’ve met lots of like-minded, new friends and it’s helped me grow my business in Northern California since we moved here.

Thanks, Jay for this photo…source anyone?

And speaking of which, please click here…to see how I can help you create the home environment that makes you happy!
