Recently, my longtime buddy Laura gave an elegant white orchid and Champagne dinner party for her mom, Fran’s 90th birthday. Laura and her husband Jack hosted it in their new (to them) mid-century modern home on the Newport Beach Bay. Come see…
Nice place to have breakfast!
This is so great how the mirror panels reflect the bay.I spot our friend, Debbie.
Who is that person in the mirror? The finish on the sputnik chandelier was custom. The lamps in the background are vintage Murano glass.
Jack and Laura have an extensive artwork collection.
What a cool idea to use an iron chain in the fireplace… nice nautical feel! And it gets hot! I made Laura turn it on for the photo. Their talented interior designer is John Wooden.
Look at all the “Champagne bubbles” as you enter their front courtyard… They are above a koi pond and Laura said they kind of spooked the fish. But sure fun for drama when entering Fran’s party!
Happy birthday, Fran!
You are a thoughtful daughter, Laura.

FUN TO READ MARY ANN. WHAT A GREAT SUNNY, REFRESHING VIEW TO WAKE UP TO EVERY MORNING!
Our house that we are renting out (not on the water’s like Laura’s) is just down the street. She has a nice little private beach 🙂
Beautiful place! Love the decor. Thanks for the peek.
What a party! And that home is decorated so nicely…..I have been looking for some chairs in a mid-century project and this has given me some inspiration!
I love midcentury homes, but don’t generally like midcentury furniture. This place is an exception. everything is perfection!
What a beautiful home and Party. The champagne bubble balloons Are Spectacular!
Your friends party looks absolutely amazing. What an ingenious way to use white balloons. And the rusted chain in the fireplace is GENIUS I grew up in a mid century modern home on the water in Huntington Harbour, just down PCH from your friends house. When my dad finally sold the home a few years ago, sadly the new owners demolished it and build a super-mega mansion. It was sad to see that history leave us. And although I didn’t appreciate the Mid Century Modern AESTHETIC back then, I am loving it now. In fact, I’m looking for an A-Frame for my next fixer that I’d like to restore in that flavor.
So stunning and chic. what a fabulous way to celebrate.
What a gorgeous home. If you had asked me a few years ago if I like mid-century design I would have given a resounding no. however, it has grown on me and this place has really grabbed my attention. i love it….what a fun place to live.
So beautiful, love all of it. job WEll done, happy birthday Fran!
What a gorgeous home!
What a gorgeous home! i’m in love with her dining room and yes, that chain in the fireplace is perfection! everything was perfect and i’m sure mom was super ecstatic!
That is the perfect shade of blue to accent the otherwise neutral palette.
I am SO copying the “champagne bubbles”!!!
I found myself saying, “WOW” as I was scrolling and reading. I love an all white table and mixing it with clear pieces was stunning. I have always loved big white balloons en masse, but seeing the different sizes really did make me think of bubbles. Lovely , lovely, lovely!! Thanks for sharing your friends beautiful home and extravaganza!!!
Laura knows how to throw a party, Kathysue!
That home is gorgeous!!!!!!!! LOVE THE CHAIN IN THE FIREPLACE…COOLEST THING I HAVE EVERY SEEN!!!!
Wow your friends really know how to throw a party! Those champagne bubbles are fabulous! Happy Birthday to Fran!!
I’m not a huge fan of mid century design, but this home is gorgeous! Just goes to show when a style you might not be attacked to is done right, you can fall in love with it. What a beautiful party and those champagne bubbles are amazing!
Hugs, gail
